Yet again, ratebeer are saying beers are retired when they aint! I bought a bottle of this golden wonder from Tesco’s just today! And it tastes good. Light brown/dark amber in colour, good carbonation. Slips down a treat with a slight hoppy dryness clearly evident. A tad reminiscent of the great Shepherd Neame Masterbrew!

Sampled in London. A nice drink. The bitters are nice and the hops used are excellent as well. It is a very smooth drink with a little bit of bitter aftertaste but is nice. Pours dark brown.

660ml bottle (bb.12.06.07) from Sainsburys, Holborn. Golden brown body under a frothy, white head. Malty foundation in aroma and taste, but with a citrus-fruity accent. Nice bitter end. Refreshing. Standard English bitter (Sampled with CinnamonGirl and Magne, 01.02.2007).

This has all the elements a fine bitter should have, but it is way too shy of making any statement. Everything is on the safe side, there are (were) far more interesting bottled beers from Young’s where they play with the ingredients and make something interesting.

Gethinbeer (2452) - Nova Scotia, CANADA - DEC 4, 2006
NIce, fresh aroma but with no distinct character. Golden colour with a frothy white head, looks high in carb. Clean crsip tatse. sweet and smooth as it goes down. Bitter finish, little watery also. Nice beer but nothing special.

Bottle: clear gold with an off-white head, some carbonation; earthy aroma; gently bitter with a clean aftertaste. Everything an "ordinary" bitter should be.

mansquito (7127) - Nueva York, New York, USA - OCT 31, 2006
A bitter ale that is quite bitter, but still easy to pour down your throat (that is the purpose of bitter ale as far as I know). Nice color. hops are overcome by the bitterness. Probably would have enjoyed beer more if I had it in a better place, but the bar where they had it was not to my liking.

Strong fruity esters are joined with caramel malts and earthy, floral hops in the nose. Clear and lightly hazy deep golden body is topped by a generous off white head that recedes to a lasting cover with nice lacing. Earthy and dry flavour has some residual caramel and plenty of fruity esters. Medium body with fizzy and somewhat short-lived carbonation. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature.

(Rating #706)
