So much looked forward to tasting this one I made it to be the only beer of the night. So wished now that I didn’t. Like Guinness draught, I think this one is heavily overrated and in reality is not truly worthy of its numerous awards. Tasted from the filtered and bastard pasteurised bottle, and poured into an English pint glass. Looks were 100% on the money, thick creamy 1" tan head atop a deep ruby brown, almost black, body. Head lasted the distance and left rings down the pint, and if looks could kill this would be a deadly bugger. Pity, as it all went pear shaped from there on. Musty and dry dark chocolate, cocoa powder and marmite nose with an odd hint of dark dried fruit. First sip was a little startling with rich and almost exotic dark chocolate flavours that followed through to a long chocolaty and roasted malt swallow. Second sip, and with my palate now adjusted, revealed a thin and watery, light bodied stout with little to no complexity bar the dark cooking chocolate that lingers like sickly sweet sauce between mouthfuls. Smooth and light in carbonation, it becomes dry and pasty once it warms and, unusually at this point, even the chocolate flavour begins to wane. This "sweet stout" has a bland flavor and almost reminds me of Guinness Draught. The body is better at warmer temperatures but still not great. This stout seems to get high ratings on its appearance alone. Body is creamy but thin. Aroma is of alcohol and makes me think of red wine. ABUSEDGOAT (2791) - California, USA - JUL 24, 2005
UPDATED: JAN 25, 2008 Nearly black pour, tan head with great lacing because of nitro. Aroma is dominated by chocolate, lesser notes of caramel, roast and hops. Medium bodied, fairly sweet. Chocolate flavor is at least decent. It’s not Nestle Quik but it’s not Valrhona either. Not too shabby.

Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. Appearance is splendid, tan head on a dark black beer. Flavor is chocolate in the aftertaste with a dry sweet flavor in the beginning. Very well made. A stout that even my wife loves! A thick but not too thick embiance, and flavour surround this drink. Full bodied filled with chocolate overtones and earthy undertones make this stout a delite for the first time taster. Exceptionally hard to find outside of larger cities, the east coast of Canada really needs to import this wonderful product! Easy to like! Clear dark brown with a modest light brown head. Aromas of chocolate and almonds, darkly roasted malt. Sweet chocolate flavour is immediately apparent but not overwhelming, and is balanced by the roasted malt and slightly bitter finish. Bottle. Black/ruby when held to light pour. Tastes of chocolates, toffee, and caramel. A pretty delicious beer with a thick mouthfeel that seems to satisfy my hunger. Maybe this is what Snickers is going for......
