Nice, impressive looking dark brown color and head. Aroma was of chocolate and roasted coffee. Taste was not as chocolate dominate as I was expecting. (Good thing) I enjoyed this one.

A deep brown-black ale with a frothy brown cap and modest carbonation. Delishious aroma of cocoa, nuts, coffee and sweet malts. Rich creamy texture, malt biased with layers of chocolate, coffee, burnt treacle and light grassy hop tones. Finish is long with a fruity fig like decernment that turns dry and bitter in the after taste......a very nice stout , very drinkable but there is a phoneyness about the choclate tastes that you can’t get past.....other than that it would be one of the world best stouts.

Dark Brown Color. Smell is of chocolate. A smooth stout with little to no bitterness with the taste of chocolate. Not a lot of alcohol so it is smoother then most stouts.

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2005 Different beer. If they made "dessert beers" this would qualify. Very sweet, very chocolately, almost like a milkshake. Not really my style.

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2005 Poured a rather deep black with a thin layer of tan head that faded quickly to a ring. Smells of sweetness and some chocolate. Some roasty malts may be stretching it a little bit. Has a faint chocolate taste with a crisp sweetness. Not much else going on flavor wise, it is somewhat thin and not really complex. Kinda bland, needs more oomph. Body and mouthfeel are cola like. Drinkable but hardly memorable.

Pours black as night. Smells of chocolate mocha. The taste had a faint chocolate taste. It went down nice and smooth. Still I think it still some what overrated. I prefer Rogue’s Chocolate stout over this one.

Bottle: Had a stong chocolate presence for aroma. Like opening a herseys bar and the aroma the comes from underneath the foil. Nice chocolate body to it. Dark brown body with decent tan creamy head. Rich chocolate flavor with some roasted flavor on the aftertaste. Good stuff.

Bottle: This is pretty good! Opaque black for the most part, except at the edges, and a thin tan head. Chocolate and black charcoal aromas, some soy sauce and more powdery chocolate at the end. Lots and lots of black roasty burnt flavours with some vinous chocolaty notes. The only thing missing here is some sweetness to fill out the body. Excellent mouthfeel though a tad thin in the end. Very fine!

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2005 Pours intense black with thick tan head. Heavy malt flavors and long, bittersweet chocolate finish. Not sugary, and filling like chocolate bread or cake. Tasted both nitro-canned and bottle, but haven’t had it on tap. Really something special.

Nice presentation, brown head with a great chocolate aroma, sort of sweet too. Flavour is less chocolate than I had expected, but was sensational, not overly bitter as one would expect from a large quantity of choc. malt. Great beer.
