Production moved from London to Bedford in 2006 when Wells and Young’s merged. Brand acquired solely by Charles Wells in 2011.
This fabulous barley wine is a malty, velvety smooth and full bodied beer with a rich dark ruby colour. Old Nick is overflowing with sumptuous flavours of fruit and hops, with a complex bitterness on the finish.
Pale ale and crystal malt together with Young’s unique mix of cane sugar and Fuggle and Goldings hops.
Try it with cheese as a delicious and flavourful alternative to port.

Dark fruit, tobacco, and raisin aroma accompany this dark-amber, smooth, medium-bodied beer. The taste is slightly underwhleming; a bit watery and bitter without much flavor. The bitter plum finish almost saves it, but alas it does not attain ’great’ status.

tasty barley wine specialty with an enticing banana-like finish. Not a bad price, either!

This was definetely some hard stuff. It was pretty good though i had alot of other fine beers prior to having this and my judgement may be off.

’Oh this is yummy’ was my first quote when I had my first sip. From the devil on the bottle, I thought this was an IPA before I read the bottle! So the first sip was a bit of a shock. This is rich, thick, almost syrupy. Yum. It has a slight alcohol bite which knocks a point or two off. This is a very nice deep, flavorful, rich beer.

Very strong malt flavor, smooth, easy drinking for a barelywine..........

Hot on the palate. Brown sugar flavor with a light (for a barleywine) body.

My first barleywine and it seems a darn good one to start with. Wonderful malty aroma and toffee-like flavors. Just the tiniest bit of an alcohol bit. Really enjoyable for a nightcap.

Pours with a nice strong head. Intriguing depth and colour. Butter malt nose. Very complex flavour. Molases, brown sugar.

A very smooth, quite delicious barleywine. Flavor profile was more balanced than Bigfoot, however, in my opinion I’d like it to lean more towards the hoppy side. Nice mellow carbonation, and again, for such a high alcohol content, it was not apparent.

ruby colour, nutty nose, full-bodied, smooth, nut flavor....................
