COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned. Occasionally available in the cask.
Production moved from Youngs to Wells & Youngs in 2007. Brand acquired solely by Charles Wells in 2011.
Ingredients: Maris Otter and Crystal malt; Fuggle and Goldings hops. Dry hopped with Golding and Target hops. Re-pitched with fresh yeast and wort in the bottle.
Young’s Special London Ale is the UK’s No.1 bottle conditioned ale. It is an unpasteurised, living beer, matured in the bottle for a fuller, more complex, multi-dimensional, fresher taste. Without artificial carbonation, the only fizz is the natural effervescence created by fermentation.
“A wonderfully balanced, deep-golden strong bottled ale, brewed from pure malt and a phenomenal amount of hops. A lively, fruity character with suggestions of banana and orange zest.”
CAMRA Champion Bottled Beer of Britain - 1999.

Panzerfaust (876) - Hanga Roa, Easter Island, - MAY 23, 2012
500 ml bottle from Unimarc Los Leones. Pours a hazy orange color crowned by a medium sized white froth. Aroma is wonderfully hoppy, nice with clear floral notes and hints of orange, citrus and spices. I also get hints of light bready malts as the foundation for the hoppy tones. Taste is gorgeous, lightly bitter with sweet undertones. Citrusy hints give a wonderful refreshing sensation for this reasonably heavy ale. Body is medium and feels very solid in the mouthfeel. Alcohol is well-disguised. This one is another great, refined English ale I enjoyed a lot.

Botella de 50 cl adquirida en supermercado Tesco de Battersea (Londres). Color ámbar, anaranjado. Espuma abundante, dos dedos, color blanco. Aromas a caramelo, malta tostada, frutas (plátano, naranja). Sabor complejo. Notas a malta tostada, frutas, especias. Amargor ligero. Interesante ale inglesa.

Davros IX (534) - Hertford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - NOV 3, 2017
Bottle at home. A perfect temperature and it poured well, just missing the sediment in the bottom. A light nose of malts with a flavour that was malt and bitter English hops in exquisite balance. The alcohol was evident, but added another layer to that flavour profile. The mouthfeel was soft from the malt with a slight alcohol burn lurking there to remind you what you are drinking. After so many disappointing Young's beers in my life this was a bit or a revelation.

From old tasting notes. Crystal clear Amber orange color with a few small bubbles and a creamy beige head. Rich sweet malty aroma is very fragrant and complex. Big toasted malt foretaste is complex and flavorful. Middle and finish are well hopped and bitter. Long bitter aftertaste. Full bodied , excellently balanced and flavorful.

Really nice beer. Rich and malty with a spicy touch. One of my personal favorite beers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
