Cask at the Calthorpe Arms, London on 4th January 2017. Deep copper with virtually no head or lacing. Spicy malt aroma. Sweet malts, touch of fruit and some hints of leafy hop in-mouth. Malty, slightly toasty in the finish. Fair bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. Rated as-is. Had I tried to compare with the original Young’s version, the fields above would have been populated with different values. Parmenion777 (276) - Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 17, 2016
UPDATED: DEC 17, 2016 A reddish dark amber colour with a tiny head. Malty and fruity, orange peel and raisin aroma. Sweet malty flavours, some brown sugar and dark fruit. A mild bitterness in the finish. Stuu666 (13094) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - DEC 7, 2016

Ruby in color with almost no head. Not much different than most real ales, but a good beer none the less.

Legacy rating. Pint at the Blue Boar in Aldbourne during their winter beer festival last year. Fruity and full-bodied with a good balance between the bitterness and sweetness. Great winter seasonal. DruncanVeasey (8225) - NUNEATON, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - JAN 9, 2016
Cask, The Marquess of Anglesey, Covent Garden, 12/12/15. Pale red with a shrinking off white top. Nose orange peel, pine cones and fresh-pinched Fuggles. Alt-like with crushed nuts, bread and a discreet orange peel and red apple fruitiness on the belch. Almond and cashew linger. Fine advert for dull old school cask English if you’re a bit jaded by designer freezing cold keg that tastes of shower gel. Highly likeable.

Sampled on draught at the Bear in Oxshott. Dark ruby colour with a white head. Sweet, malty aromas with hints of spices. Taste is rich and malty, with notes of Demerara sugar, mild coffee vine fruit and spices. Pleasantly bitter. A really delicious winter beer. Has well-deserved classic status. Short review social. Pint from cask at College Arms. Cloudy brown, small white head. Body is medium, quite foamy. Taste is dry, astringent, malty, tiring. Didn’t finish the pint. A half would be OK. AWS9 (699) - Mississauga, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 28, 2014
Decent ruby brown pour with a slight head. Deep grape, heavy malt backing. Very smooth. Toffee/caramelness for some sweetness. Yeah, nice.
