An iconic American lager famous for its rich amber color and medium-bodied flavor - with a roasted caramel malt for a subtle sweetness and a combination of cluster and cascade hops, this true original delivers a well-balanced taste with very distinct character.

Drank this lager for many years...sometimes disappointed by its inconsistency. Skunky smell to this bottle. Smell is not overly pleasant either. It is one of the better macro lagers out there. I would be crushed if it were expensive. Lager is a good, solid middle of the road brew.

darker color than most pale lagers. unfresh aroma of hops with some darker malts noticeable. tastes rather like anchor steam, with a sort of musty flavor that isnt too bad really. thin finish and a typical, unmemorable aftertaste. excellent for a pale lager....

In the 22 oz. bomber bottle. The bottle caught my eye, so I thought "what the hell." To my disappointment, it was a twist cap and could not be put into homebrew service. However, that was not the only let down to this little Pennsylvania favorite. Pours a rich amber color, but virtually without carbonation! No head unless you hop into the glass and splash around a little with your swim fins. Smells like water. Doesnt taste much different than aqua vitae either. After having a Frankenheim lager earlier this evening, I must say that this lacks the same lager yeast flavor. However, the two lagers are equally wet. I think that I must be missing something here, as the ratebeerians seem to respect the Pride of Pottsville.

On draft at cafe in the Florida keys. Amber lager with a small off-white head that diminished completely leaving a smooth flat surface and no lacing. Definite hoppy aroma, tart, crisp and hoppy flavor. This was pretty good cold, then seemed to grow more soapy and foul as the beer warmed. Its possible that I got a bad pour from an old keg or one that had fouled lines, but this one left me unimpressed.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2012 I love my lagers, and this was a very good one. Nice amber color with some head and right amount of carb. Crisp and refreshing. I only had time for one bottle so far. I might come back to raise the rating in the future.

Bottle: This is one of the best widespread lagers Ive tasted. Amber in color with a small white head. Aroma has corn, fruit, hops, and spice. Flavor: spice, light fruit, toast, light malt. Very nice lager that is nice to drink at cooler temperatures that I would drink most beers. Refreshing.

Had this on tap while watching some live bands at Arlenes Grocery in Manhattan. Thanks to Brian for the hookup. Nose of spice and toasted malt with a hint of wine. The brew is a clear amber and has a quickly diminishing white frothy head that leaves virtually no lacing. This lager has mad flavor for the style; spicy, fruity, and toasty. The light body is creamy and soft, and feels chalky at the finish. A wicked lager to be sure.

A very popular beer here at ASU. It good but way over rated. A bit dark with a tan head.

Pours amber with a small white head. Aroma is corny fruity hops, but is weak. Falvor is fruity malt but is otherwise fairly nondescript. Surprisingly easy to drink. Better than most macroswill. Maybe a little watery, but otherwise surprisingly good for a lager, which I dont usually enjoy. I would have a few more of this one.
