Yuengling long existed as a regional brewer, but in 1987, they re-introduced Traditional Lager, which has become their flagship brand, usually just called "Lager."
To put this beer in perspective, it’s really not a "craft beer," nor is it intended to be. It uses adjunct and would fall in line with macro swill on the profile scale, checking in at 4.6 percent ABV, 142 calories and only around 13-15 IBUs. It IS, however, a far cry from typical domestic crap.
Yuengling has a nice copper color, as they do throw a little caramalt in the mash. There’s a hint of sweetness in the nose and a slight caramel aroma lingers as it rolls down the gullet. Surprisingly, it has pretty good body for an American lager. It finishes clean with only the faintest whiff of any hop content. It gives a sense of a classic European lager, but without the fuller mouthfeel or protein body of the continental 2-row malt. It actually reminds me a bit of the pre-takeover Stroh’s when it was caramelized in the direct fire kettle, but with a little more body. It does have flavor, however, and that is not the norm for the typical "big brewer" product.
Regardless, this is a wonderful session brew for a large American brewery and a domestic lager, particularly in the cold longneck bottle on a warm summer day.
Serving type: bottle
12 oz bottle pours a clear dark golden color with small white head and hardly any lacing. Aroma is grainy and skunky. Taste is slightly bitter at the finish. Body is light with a crisp mouthfeel. This is one of the most refreshing lagers I’ve tried and I look forward to the next one. Kleg (254) - The Beach, Florida, USA - JUL 13, 2017
Clear amber pour with a khaki head and poor retention. Spotty lacing. Clean and smooth caramel lager flavor. Medium body. Good stuff. RABinCO (1511) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - JUL 12, 2017
Not the best beer, but the platonic ideal of the perfect beer. Crisp, refreshing, easily chuggable with a great flavor profile. Not super sweet, light floral hop notes. Light biscuit backbone. apopielarz (22) - - JUL 2, 2017
Surprised how popular this beer is, flat flavor profile without much complexity that the appearance would suggest.

Clear bright copper hue with a thin bubbly spotty cap. Nice amber malty lagerish nose with calm amber and toffee notes on a light body. Smooth lagered flavor with semisweet amberish tones with light toffee and a bready doughy finish. Lightly sweet and amberish and bready. On the nice side of okay. Bottle @ Buddy’s Crab House & Oyster Bar, Surf City, North Carolina. Amber with a carbonation and no head. Standard lager with a more malty nose than taste. frothysuds (14) - Texas, USA - JUN 20, 2017

Draft at Cowfish, Universal Studios Orlando. Deep, dark amber with little head. Sweet, smooth and malty. Not bad, but I won't be joining the cult following.

Hmm... Nothing special here. Somewhat fruity aroma but the taste is plain pils-barley. Won’t be drinking again.
