Appearance: Apple Juice dark amber. Hazy. Half a finger of white bubbles
Nose: Malty with caramel forward. Bouquet of pine, funk and resiny hops.
Taste: balanced malt and pine throughout with a long resinous bitter finish.
Body: Medium with decent carbonation
Parting thoughts: A well regarded IPA. Very solid. Good blending of malt and hops.

Bottle from Jungle Jim dated 1/27/17 pour avg gold with moderate white head, lots of fine floaters. Nose resin, pine, light dank, and some unripe grapefruit. Taste moderate bitter up front, grapefruit, citrus pith, and dank hop. Light sweetness mid palate with a hint of peppery spice. More bitterness through the finish. Reasonable drinking but not a standout to me. Tmoney99 (14626) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 1, 2017
Tap. Poured clear light copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate balanced aroma. Medium body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet bitter flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good beer. phaleslu (10336) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 22, 2017
12 oz. bottle from Hyde Park Wine & Spirits. Batch 139, bottled 1/27/17. I’ve been wanting to try this one for a while; heard good things. It pours a somewhat cloudy orange with a finger of off-white head that settles into a bubbly uneven ring and thinner patchy film, while leaving a lot of sloppy lace in the glass. Sweet and malty, with caramel, resin, honey, papaya, orange peel, pine, and florals. The aroma has a distinct buttery note (diacetyl?), as well. Light-medium bodied, with an initially sticky and sweet, then boozy and bitter mouthfeel. A slight fusel burn. This is all over the place. Disappointing.

Twelve ounce bottle from Jeff’s Marathon, tasted on January 21, 2017. Cloudy amber/gold hue, intense aroma with a lot of grapefruit and some earthiness, creamy texture, smooth but very flavorful bittersweet taste with grapefruit, resin, and earthiness, long pleasing aftertaste. This is the second beer I’ve had from Zaftig and both have been standouts. I’m making this brewery a mandatory stop on my next trip to Columbus. superspak (5691) - Michigan, USA - JAN 14, 2017
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/12/2016. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy orange/amber color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of huge apricot, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, guava, mango, melon, berry, tangerine, citrus peel, light pepper/pine, caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge apricot, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, guava, mango, melon, berry, tangerine, citrus peel, pepper, pine, caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of apricot, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, guava, mango, melon, berry, tangerine, citrus rind, pepper, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Light-medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/sticky/resinous, and slightly slick balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is fairly well hidden, a slight warmth lingers after the finish. Overall this is an awesome IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; very smooth and easy to drink with the balanced bitterness. Insanely bright/juicy on hops; pretty malty but not overly sweet. A very enjoyable offering. jsquire (4525) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - DEC 8, 2016
Golden beer with a sticky off white head. Big juicy hop nose with gobs of tropical fruit and citrus notes. Thick mouth feel. Fresh tropical fruit, candied citrus peel, stone fruit and a nice warming alcohol sense to it. Very tasty Citra hop beer. michcam8 (567) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - OCT 27, 2016
Pours hazy golden/orangish glow with a dense, light khaki head. Aroma of citrus, light malt and cracker. Taste is orange, citrus grapefruit, light malts, and bitterness. Slightly thin body. No detection of alcohol. Pretty good overall. Would recommend to others. ZaftigBeer (1) - - OCT 24, 2016 does not count
Great IPA delivering a great nose/ and flavor profile to Zaftig's malty backbone signature
