pours dark brown with a thick lt. tan head...nice retention and lacing! aroma is very czech!...lightly roasty with delicate spicy hops. flavor follows suit...roasty with subtle chocolate malt...hints of spicy hops...earth and well balanced. light mouthfeel with a smooth roasty finish. nice example of the style. phaleslu (10652) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 19, 2011
500 ml bottle shared by Matt at The Royale, but he picked it up at Randall’s. Pours a dark brown-amber color with a small beige head. Aroma of mixed malts, musky grains, dust, toast, and a little cardboard. Flavor of sweet and dark malts, dust, more grains, brown sugar, leaves, and wet paper. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a malty, dank mouthfeel. There is also a hint of smoke forming as this beer warms. Not bad, but not really my thing. 16.9 oz bottle. Pours burgundy brownish with 2-finger off-khaki head. Nose is earthy broiwn sugary malt. Tastes malty, on the sweet side, earthy, with some chalky and nutty notes late. Overall, this is a pretty decent dark lager. 3fourths (9358) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 6, 2011
bottle. clear dark burgundy colored body; bright with high saturation and a plum color at the edges; tall building large-bubbled toast colored head. mild toasted grains and dough in the nose with medium to light metallic notes. medium body with surprisingly sharp acid. toasted and burnt grain hull astringency mixed with watery texture and somewhat fizzy carbonation. pencil shavings and sour dough in the finish is unpleasant. mild nose but offensively sharp and astringent. Dark syrup and cereal aroma. Cool label and cap. Dark cola brown, clear beer. Under-bittered, starchy, moderately sweet, molasses notes. Medium-heavy body, cereal finish. OK. Bottle, Cosentinos Downtown Market, KC. leah2974 (429) - Georgia, USA - DEC 1, 2010
Very smooth, yet dark and flavorful. Dark lager describes it very well. It has the mild flavor of a lager with the boldness of a dark beer. Rando7 (787) - Iowa, USA - NOV 27, 2010
Pleasant surprise. Bottle pours caramel color with thick frothy off-white head with great lacing. Aroma sweet malts. Taste matches with sweet malts, caramel, toffee. Palate thick and carbonated, not syrupy. Finish slightly bitter hops but not overbearing and I’m not a big hops fan. Alcohol slightly evident.
This is a very sweet beer and won’t appeal to everybody, but I enjoyed it. Strykzone (7624) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - NOV 26, 2010
A big soapy tan head. Dark brown with lots of red and clear. Malty aroma. Flavor is faint chocolate chip cookies and dough. Expectations for this one were quite low and it was a pleasant surprise. mabel (9787) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 24, 2010
