2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
0.5l bottle bought at Bohémia Sörszalon. First of all, I am not sure whether this is really the Zatec Xantho. It is the botle shown on the picture and its label says Dark Lager Beer. No word Xantho on it. (The brewery homepage anyway says Xantho is bottled in 0.33 bottles...)
Anyway, here is my verdict: Neutral aroma, very little foam that vanishes completely very soon. Quite disappointing and quite unbelievable from a Czech lager. Taste is mostly sweet, bit roasted, bit liquorice. Very simple. Moderate carbonation. Looks and tastes like a dead home-brew. Did not like it.
0.33l bottle. Brown color with disappearing head. Aroma is caramel, toasted malt, burnt sugar, dark fruits and light chocolate character with some soapy notes. Taste is toasted malt and fruity with some bitterness. Overall it’s nice dark lager. BBHansen (934) - Køge, DENMARK - APR 2, 2017
Bottle (Zatec dark) @ home w friends/boilermaker. Appearance: pours clear brown with good beige soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: barley, caramel, rye bread and floral notes. palette: medium roasted aroma, average carbonation, medium body, medium to distinct malt sweetness, somewhat balanced by an average bitterness, medium duration and an oily texture. Overall: nice roasted dunkel.

Bottle, 0.33l. Sampled as Žatec Dark. Deep ruby pour with minimal white head, vanishing instantly. No lacing whatsoever. Smell of iron and toffee with herbal touch to it. Caramel takes over as it clears up.
Thin to medium body. Carbonation is average but prickly on the tongue. A bit watery texture. Bittersweet. Aroma is grainy and malty, a bit of caramel, slightly herbal. Faint corn. Somewhat peppery, slight metal in the aftertaste. Not complex, quite simple but executed fairly well. Finish is a bit dry and slightly bitter.
Overall, ok. Drinkable, yes, but quite an unimaginative effort. Hrc_Cro (531) - Zagreb, CROATIA - JAN 22, 2017
0.33l bottle as Žatec Dark. Clear dark ruby color with browny head. Aroma of malt and caramel. Taste is sweet and bitter. Basic stuff, don’t know why score is so high. drjoeng (1264) - SINGAPORE - DEC 31, 2016

Bottle Tried as Zatec Dark Lager. Black and quite lively upon opening. Smooth malty flavour with liquorice in background. Well balanced and definitely worth trying Holmen2 (3634) - NORWAY - NOV 5, 2016
