At Abseitz, Bamberg. Dark golden, hazy, medium head. Aroma is wheat. Taste is wheat, banana, caramel, solid weizen.

Pale, hazy, tart interpretation of the style, taking it easy on the banana&clove milkshake and instead shooting for apricot, green apple and lemon rind on a bland yeast profile: almost a landbier in this respect, wheaty, yet none too rich in esters. Instead spicy hops take the stage, herbal, with pepper and mint. Very refreshing and something else than your usual weizenbrick. / rerate 02/2015, aged bottle: protein-lean, more clove, still apple, apricot, minimal banana.

Fresh bottle consumed at the brewery in August, 2014: Radiant golden with some haze. Creamy nonuniform white head. Very bright and clean aroma of dried pineapple, lemon balm, piecrust, minerals, clove, and cookie. Soft prickles of lush carbonation. Initial dryness is heightened by a vivacious phenolic punch and that trademark Zehendner minerality which clasps the tongue so forcefully. Well-attenuated body is artfully supported by a juicy splash of hop-derived nectar and lemony acids as well as plenty of ripe esters. Delicate note of bubblegum is nicely integrated and not at all intrusive. Wheat is cleanly extracted yet possesses no slippery starchiness to interfere with the lean, mineral-laced core or the high concentration of tropical fruit and Juicy Fruit gum succulence. Finishes squeaky clean and bone dry with a clovelike fervency and abundant flower nectar. A bracingly dry, snappy and immaculate weissbier that bursting with minerals. Hands down one of the driest beers of its ilk to be found in Franconia, or the world for that matter. Simply delightful.

Bottle at the Stöhrenkeller, Bamberg 11/8/2014. Hazy gold with a big, white, head. Solid Hefeweizen, with the usual, banana, clove and bubble gum notes. Good.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2014 Bottle at the brewery, dated September 30 best by. Sparkling, highly effervescent gold. Stiff, tall head.
Phenolic mineral water nose, dominant note of banana with clean wheat expression. Fresh and lively in the mouth. Just about the perfect nose for weissbier, hard to find anything to improve or change. Lemon meringue and spiced clove sits in the background but adds a pleasant pepperiness to the wheat core. Light body, sugar and acid well-matched. If anything a little too banana-heavy in the mouth, but the nose seems flawless.
