3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Főzdefeszt as Hámori Keserűcsokis.
Pours a dark brown with a fluufy beige head on its top.
Malty aroma with chocolate and caramel.
Finishes sweetbitter escorted by dark chocolate and mild hops.
1 l bottle bought at the 4th Főzdefeszt as Keserű Csokis. Not sure it is the same as Zempléni Barna used to be, but someone already rated this one here, so let me do it the same. Text on label promises honey and 3 types of malt, including chocolate malt, sounds good.
Unfortunately, the beer fails to deliver.. When poured into the glass, it starts with practically no head, looks very disappointing. Yet, it has a rater strong carbonation. Aroma is slightly fruity, a hint of cherry detectable. Taste is extremely simple, maybe a bit of cherry and cola. Chocolate maybe, but very little. Tastes like a typical amateur home brew. Reminds me to a carbonated sweet red wine or dessert wine. Very sweet, no hops at all. Alcohol seems stronger than the 5.5% promised on the label. Very simple. Not convincing at all. Especially disappointing for the "premium" price it was sold for. leems (406) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 2, 2010
Hungary 2010, draft. Dark opaque brown with a huge fluffy tan head that stuck around leaving thick lacing. Toffee, esters, caramel, bread in the aroma with pretty similar on the palate, floral and sweetness come forward, long finish is slightly sulfury. armando629 (2456) - Budapest, HUNGARY - JAN 22, 2009
UPDATED: JAN 30, 2009 Draught into a PET bottle at the Gyertyános Pub, Budapest, 14th district, Nagy Lajos király út 100. The pub is a raunchy one...Dark amber color, minimal head. Sourish yeast and some caramel in the nose. Weak body with some caramel taste, minimal carbonation, acidic mouthfeel. I think it was not the best tap, not a fresh one...I can not drink my sample...I am dissapointed...I feel the chance to be a better one, so i will taste it again.. judasbeer (431) - Budapest, HUNGARY - DEC 29, 2008

It was an other beer when i have tasted it at the brewpub on tap. Now it has a nice appearance with a dark amber body, and a fine beige foamy head. Fine roasted malt, caramel in the nose. Smooth mouthfeel, sweet caramel and light toasty flavor. Fine roasted aftertaste. Nice.
1.5 L PET bottle from Gyertyános Pub Budapest. Dark amber, red colour. Small beige head. Caramell malt aroma. Pleasant smooth carbonation, smooth body. Sweet caramel malty mouthfeel with some buttery notes. Dry aftertaste. Easy drinkable, decent hungarian micro-brew.
