Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a thick finger’s worth of white foamy head with some light lacing.
The aroma starts with some sweet bready/doughy maltiness flowing over a rugged earthy bitter hoppiness. Slight spice, yet contained.
The flavor yields a nice roasty sweet taste rolling over the earthy spice to balance nicely. Crisp sweet malty aftertaste with a semi-sticky malty finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation seems good for what it is.
Overall, nice brown ale leaning towards the American style due to the bitterness level. I would have this again. muzzlehatch (4963) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 17, 2006
Draught pint at the brewpub. Very, very unfiltered, murky-dirty light brown with hints of ruby, lasting smallish head and a bit of lace....expected yeasty, bready aroma, hints of caramel, light sweet herbs (tarragon) and almonds...woody, thickly malty and sweet with a touch of fruitiness (apple/pear cider), lots of lovely caramel, moderate finishing bitterness....low carbonation, very bready/doughy thick mouthfeel, really a lovely pint if not exactly exciting; would love to see this on cask!
