On tap at the source.
Pours a solid black color with a creamy tan head that sticks lots of lace on the side of the glass. Smells roasty and chocolaty with hints of caramel and earthy hops. Taste follows the smell to a tee. My wife reminded me that I took the first sip and said damn that’s good. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a smooth slick mouthfeel. That is a nice stout! tiggmtl (4544) - East York, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 22, 2005
Roasted malt and cocoa aroma with strong notes of liquorice and nutty sweetness. Opaque black body with a low brown head that recedes to cover. Grapey notes are strong in the dark malt flavour with plenty of roasted malts and liquorice apparent. Sweet and roast are nicely balanced on the tongue especially in the lasting finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation and smooth texture. Sampled on tap at the brewpub with beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT, muzzlehatch, Rastacouere and Yowie. on tap at the source, clean right and roasty. Aroma is roasted malts, wood, chocolate. Light and light-bodied. Clean roast finish with some caramel sweetness. muzzlehatch (4963) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - APR 19, 2005
Draft pint at the brewpub. Completely opaque inky evil black with a tiny brown head that fades into a whisper of haze...sweet espresso-covered chocolate nose, just a bit of sherry...dried fruits, especially prunes, through the lightly vinous body, full and quite roasty, just a touch of chocolate and alcohol, generally very dry towards the finish. On draught at the brewpub, 4/16/05. Dark black with some cola-brown tinges on the edge. Greyish-brown head recedes to cover rather quickly. Aroma of lightly burnt malt, hints of tobacco and anise. Cola, coffee, chocolate are all present in good measure here, though the intensity of the aroma could be a bit stronger. They serve the beer very cold here. Flavor starts with soft vanilla beans mixed with milk chocolate covered raisins, very easygoing, pleasant roastiness, not overly drying or bitter. Finishes with a good deal of coffee flavor, ilghtly oily, but again not too bitter as to bore the drinker. Good malt body, which is medium and just a slight touch of thinning as it warms. Low carbonation, fairly low fruitiness for the style, but as the bartender told me, it was kind of a dry stout/foreign stout hybrid (and the distinctions can get pretty blurry between the two styles). Very flavorful, I will reiterate, and I was very impressed to find this so well-made already.

Pours a rich opaque black with dark brown edges and a thick tan head. Aroma is sweet, caramely and very roasty. Body starts rich, robust and sweet with nice dark fruit hints and lots of roasty notes. Finishes dry and crisp, slightly warming. A decently balanced, complex foreign stout. Rastacouere (6177) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 26, 2005
A slight off-brown head covers the blackish gloom. The seemingly typical Flatbread sweetness works particularly well in here, offering a brown sugar and floury medley that beef up the powdery roasted malts and cast a pinch of anise undertones. Unsurprisingly sweet and malty mouth presence reminds of oatmeal, molasses all going through a considerable roastiness. Not so thick as I first thought, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. The bottom line is that this beer seems to take all the house strengths to pack them up together in one beautiful package. Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - FEB 25, 2016
On tap at Vermont Tap House, Williston, VT.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a black color with a thin bar pour’s white foamy head. Light lacing.
The smell had sweet dark and milk chocolate, dark fruits, robust coffee beans.
The taste took the previously mentioned flavors and combined wonderfully. Really nice rich thick sweetness from the combination all around. Nice chocolate covered dark fruity aftertaste runs into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionable to sipping quality. Carbonation runs light. Bitter to roastiness hits on the tongue nicely.
Overall, this one was a nice foreign/extra stout that I could have again. kaser (6314) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 29, 2017
