Poured into an English pint glass, the appearance was a semi-dark hazy burnt orange close to brown/reddish color. Thin white film of a head that dissipated immediately. No lacing.
The aroma has some toffee to subtle peaty malts. Some roast and toast flow in underneath.
The flavor was basically the same. Malty rich aftertaste. Quick finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Mild carbonation, nice and low. Pretty smooth beer.
Overall, pretty good Scottish ale that I could have again. mabel (10011) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 5, 2014
[5258-20130426] Tap. Coffee roasted malt grain aroma has hunt of cinnamon. Clear, dark amber brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. Grainy toasted malt flavour has a light coffee undertone. Medium body. Nice to try, has a flat herbal characteristic to it when it warms. (7/3/7-/3/14) 3.4

2013-04-26. Dark mahogany brown body small tan head, lace. Nice highlights. 3+ Aroma is modest sort of herbal character similar to the root beer I just had actually! Flavour is similar, light toasty toasty malt, herbal character has anise and sarsaparilla notes. Sweetish malt core, whisper of vanilla. Much sweeter malt character comes out as it warms. Smooth average plus palate. 3+ On tap at Three Penny Taproom, Montpelier jcwattsrugger (12589) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - APR 23, 2013

6 oz. pour @ the brew pub. Pours a deep amber, lasting thin head and light lace. The flavor has notes of toffee and caramel up front with light sweetness followed by leather, peat, light smoke. Finish is lightly sweet and malty. Yet something id slightly off with it. I think the carbonation was right on the draught line. It has a flat old taste to it. And I hate to type it but the body was thin. Again no major problems with this brew but needs some fine tuning. deyholla (12803) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUN 30, 2011
On tap at the brewpub. Poured a clear deep amber brown with a gray head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of sweet grain and bread with a hint of earthy stone fruits. Flavor was similar with sweet grains, bread and a bit of caramel throughout with hints of earthy red fruits in the finish.
A nice red copper ale with a thin white head. In aroma, nice butterscotch with vinous notes, and nice alcohol warmth. In mouth, a nice light and sweet scotch ale, with a bit of butterscotch, a bit underwhelming and thin. On tap at brewpub, Jan 11, 2010. philvil (176) - Massachusetts, USA - FEB 7, 2010
a deep red pour. the peaty scottish flavors were solid and it struck a good balance between sweet and dry. i would have preferred a little sweeter and a little more alcohol. texture was too thin
