3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growlette from my buddy.
This was poured into a pilsner glass.
The appearance was a ruddy semi-hazy burnt orange almost red hued color. Thin white foamy finger’s worth of head slowly dissipates.
The aroma surrounds some sweet to smokey meat to breadiness. Sly crisp semi-earthy to sweet yet bitter grassy hops.
The flavor brings all of those previously mentioned aromas together nicely. Crisp sweet aftertaste with sly sweet meaty finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice crisp smooth sweet feel to it’s sessionability. Low carbonation helps to yield to a sly stickiness.
Overall, nice rauchbier as far as I know. There might be a little bit more of the grassy hops than most rauchbiers, but I still say still, very nicely done.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
A pale golden lager with a thin creamy white, lacing. A lightly pungeant smokey aroma, diminishing over time. In mouth, a very light yet smokey lager, a bit thin but a good rauchbier for beginners. On tap at brewpub, Nov. 30 2008, with Sponge and Goldorak.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pale golden with a heavy sticky white head. Aroma is lightly smoky with a nice soft clean bready maltiness. Crisp pilsner malt base. Soft herbal hops and even a little bit fruity as well. Lingering smokey finish that is completely harmonized with the pale crackery malts. Bang on for the style.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at the brewpub. Mild smoky aroma. Clear light golden body, off-white head. Flavor is meaty and smoky, dead on for the style. Lasting smoked ham finish. Excellent.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
on tap at Flatbread. Lightly hazy golden in color with some orange hues. Medium off white head. Aroma is malty, with pale and mild biscuity malt and the smoke is between mild and moderate. Taste is malty with pale malt sweetness, munich malt and moderately smoky. Medium bodied, with a light bittering finish. Nice.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a transparent effervescent golden with a thin-lacing wispy white head. A touch of smoke and grainy pale malts dominate the nose with a German lager yeasty profile. Body is fairly full with some light Munich malty sweetness and good smoky character throughout, although it’s not nearly as smoky as the Schlenkerla beers. Finishes crisp and semi-sweet. Very drinkable and true to style.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught pint at the brewpub, October 2007. Lightly hazy (clearing after a few minutes) yellow-straw-gold with just a bit of quick-dying white head....faintly smoky, pils-malty aroma, light sharp grassiness, Noble hops gradually do fade a bit under fruitwood smoke....pils-like body as well; this is one of the lighter rauchbiers you’re ever going to drink, and to my mind distinctive and interesting for that reason....drying, grassy, lightly spicy finish; strong carbonation.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Hazy, golden(?) pour that looks not unlike a hefeweizen in fact, but for the white head that quickly departs to leave a healthy ring. Not so obvious smoke in the nose that has a wheaty feel to it on top of the fruity malts, think of apricots and yellow plums. The smoke grows more obvious in the juicy palate. Intense carbonation cuts through the malty body and imparts a certain dryness. Flowery and fresh finish. Alright, but I expected more of a smoke kick to accompany my spicy and delicious flatbread.
