Harlon’s BBQ - Austin, Tx. Airport. Pours a light copper with a minimal white head, no lacing. Brief aroma of fresh lake water, not much else. Flavor is crisp with very brief caramel hints, but fleeting. Mouthfeel is choking and stinging, very, very dry. Recieved in a trade with Kevin. Poured a brown and amber color. The head is just slightly off white. The aroma is nutty caramel. The taste is chewed up sugared bubblegum. Bottle Pours a clear deep redish amber with very little off-white head and slight lacing. Aroma is fairly sweet and malty, whith some woody notes. Flavor is similar but some sweet brown sugar or caramel flavors. Feel is thin and carbonation is medium. I didn’t find it to taste bad....I just didnt find that it tasted very good either. Ziegen Bock was Anheuser's answer to Texas' cult favorite, Shiner Bock. But in these heady days of Atkins mania, Shiner introduced Shiner Light, and so Ziegen has to offer Ziegen Light. We could do without this carb fetish, and this is little better than the rest, but at least it gives the appearance of retaining some dignity. I say "appearance" because I strongly suspect food coloring at work here. The color is rich caramel with a hint of red--far more dark than any 3.4g of carbs could produce. The aroma is that plain metal-grape soda aroma that you get from malt liquor in a can. The flavor is initially promising, with an underlying fruitiness (cherry?) coming from the malts, though this disappears on closer inspection and leaves only a disappointing dustiness, and indeed, some really weird and ugly flavors. Some sweetness tries to come through, but the weirdness grows and grows. What's happening to this beer? Argghhh!! At least a smoothness gives more appearance of malt body, though it must be another trick because if it is truly light.... "Brewed and available only in Texas" is Anheuser-Busch's gift to the other 49 states and the rest of the world.

UPDATED: DEC 14, 2005 Aroma heavy in alchohol, with little else. Light amber in appearance, with a watery look to it. Very little in the way of flavor here -- sort of an alchohol/water mix. Leaves almost nothing on the palate except a light hint of hops. I wouldn’t buy this product again. RERATE: Ok, I drank a second bottle, and this is even worse than I originally thought.
