Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing.
Body is clear dark yellow to light amber.
Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, bread, husks), lightly hoppy (herbs), with light notes of butter and metal.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly husky.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Ah, the ubiquitous Zirndorfer. It’s all over the place in Nuernberg...supermarkets, casinos, kebab and pizza shops, you name it. So it’s not too surprising to find it’s made by the Tucher beverage group. On the plus side, it’s not terrible...yes, it’s kind of husky and a touch buttery, but even from the first whiff I knew it wasn’t going to be repulsive. Fresh bottle consumed in Nov. 2012: Yellow gold. Creamy and persistent white foam. Aroma displays a slightly husky, indistinct maltiness, with a hint of paper, as well. Pleasant hints of lemon, toasted straw and subdued fruitiness. Tight and frothy carbonation. Somewhat foamy, though. Malt is quite weighty and fuzzy, initially, and limply papery, additionally. Trailing suggestions of toffee and toast combine with the relatively high residual sweetness to muddle the already undefined malt and lend unneeded weight. Turkish-apricot sugars abound. A wet hay limpness and toasted bread depth coincide with merely a trace of flowers which poke through the scantly hopped finish. Touch of waxy residue lingers. Not a particularly fine-tuned or characterful example. Very straightforward.

Draught at Burgwachter Das Gasthaus am Burgfelsen, Nurnberg, Germany. Poured a clear bronze coppery colour with a thin white bubble head that retained OK but didn’t lace well. Very low carbonation. Aroma slightly of yeast and malt and a trace of honey. Taste sweet caramel malt followed by subddued floral hops. Light body. Short finish of smooth caramel sweetness. Half litre bottle, poured into pint glass.
A: Bronze coppery colour, clear, one finger off white head, decent retention.
S: Slight yeast, toasted malt, not overly pronounced.
T: Some cranberry, cooking apple, biscuit, burnt malt, rye. Finish was bittersweet.
M: Smooth, light body, low carbonation.
O: Standard for what breweries in the area call Landbier, reminded me of the Altfrankisch Vollbiers produced in and around Bamberg. Passable but won’t seek out again.

Clear amber color. Great, white, creamy head, slowly falling, lacing. Looks really good. Soft carbonation, watery texture. Aroma: Medium sweet. Malty, bready, roasty, soft aromas of hops. Taste: Avarage. Malty, bready, roasted malts, cardboard.oderate sweet with minimal bitterness. Slightly bitter, short finish.
