Mahogany with no head and some spotty lacing. Slightly sour with a little bit of cherry funk. There is hints of ammonia throughout. Finishes off with a cherry sourness.
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy reddish orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tart cherry, cranberry, strawberry, raspberry, lemon, lime, pear, apple, plum, red grape, fruit skin, hay, straw, grass, oak, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light pepper/leathery funk, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity/earthy/funky yeast, cherry juice, and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart cherry, cranberry, strawberry, raspberry, lemon, lime, pear, apple, plum, red grape, fruit skin, hay, straw, grass, oak, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light pepper/leathery funk, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light fruity/acidic tartness and yeast/tannic oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of cherry, berry, lemon, lime, pear, apple, plum, red grape, fruit skin, hay, straw, grass, oak, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy/funky yeast, cherry juice, and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/spiciness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from tart/tannic notes, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, fairly acidic/tannic, and slightly slick balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 7%. Overall this is an outstanding fruited Flanders red ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy/funky yeast, cherry juice, and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the balanced acidic/tannic flavors. Pours auburn-brown, hazy but clearing, with big tan that leaves attractive lacing and persistent skim.
Nose is flowers, funk, cherries, earth. Taste is well-balanced malt sweetness over sour kriek. With aeration, brett plays the wild card with browning apples, iron, lemon, honey, leather all having their moments alongside the tart cherries. Brief bitter dry note before clean finish.
Not the deepest flavor profile, but what is there shows well, especially approaching room temperature.

750-ml bottle from binnys Lincoln Park. tons of head, indeed red/brown, sweet earthy nose, balanced, cork flew 239 in. from 3rd floor. but mainly wanted to quote michael jackson: "it has the classic element of those beers, a combination of a cultured yeast and a semi-wild yeast. A cultured yeast is a normal beer yeast, a Saccharomyces, and the semi-wild yeast is a Brettanomyces, the classic type of semi-wild yeast used in Belgium. I always try to make an attempt to explain what I mean by semi-wild yeast. A wild yeast is one where you open the windows and hope that it comes in. A semi-wild is a type that has been cultured but lives in the slightly wild way in the brewery, maybe in some old casks. To put it in animal terms, a dog is a real domestic animal. A cat plays at being a domestic animal, when it suits the cat, but you can’t make the cat fetch the Sunday newspaper from the store. The body is brown with a bit of orrange added in. The fizzy tan head did some nice lacing before it settled into a film. The aroma has a definite malt beneath it, but is heavily topped by sour cherries with a touch of rusting iron. It’s spritzy in the mouth even though the body displays little carbonation.
