COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bottle. Dark chestnut, creamy brown layer on top. Fairly vineous nose on chocolate, like booze-filled pralines. Milk chocolate flavor base, light orange, a hint juniper. Medium to light body. A hint roast retronasal. Decent.

The bottle that I picked up at the Friar Tuck in Bloomington, IL, listed this as 4.7% ABV. It poured a deep, clear reddish brown with a creamy, sustained ecru head that provided plenty of lace. It smelled of sweet wort and caramel and tasted pretty much the same but stopped just short of being cloying. Not bad.

Bottle, 5.1%. Good malty aroma, slightly vinous and roasted. Clear dark brown colour. Small head, almost white. Good malty flavour, slightly vinous, nicely roasted and bready. Mild but very nice.

jb (3270) - Rochester, New York, USA - OCT 31, 2008
Dark and very red, thin head. Toffee and faint chocolate in nose. Bit of cinnamon in the palate, a bit toas.ted. Drinkable in a session-sort of way, but certainly nothing special.

drpimento (3672) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 17, 2008
Decent brew. Served with a nice head and good lace. Has a nice dark malty and dark fruity nose. Flavor is similar, Soft palate. Smooth at first going to a light tingle. Finsih is dark malt and a little sweetness. Color is a dark amber brown. Session beer for sure. Would like to try this on draft as well as make beer bread with it.

11.2 oz bottle. Don’t know what the description says, but it’s a dark brown, off white head looking dunkel. First sip and I can feel the ABV already. Dunkels aren’t my area of expertise, but I sure like the flavor of this one. Better than a 63. Edit - After finishing the beer, I upped the points. Very smooth, no alcohol aftertaste, a very nice drinkable beer.

Pours dark brown. Mild toasty nutty flavor up front. Water palate, not a very crisp estery finish, more watery caramel flavor. Decent, but didn’t stand out.

its nice and refreshing malty, although its thin on the palate front. slight caramel and toffee, good for having after work.

The aroma is malty with caramel, toffee, cereal, and light hops. The appearance is medium brown with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall i like it.

ganache (5955) - New Jersey, USA - AUG 12, 2008
Bottle, 25th rating for this brew. Mine lists 4.7% abv. Lovely nutty nose, sweetly malty with some well-lagered funk and a hint of spice, Schwarzbrot with toast and just a hint of toffee. Coke-colored pour edging toward ruby with a dense, creamy tanned head. Smooth, creamy, slightly tart taste, light nuts with caramelized sugar, subtle toast, and slight funk. Medium-light body, very quaffable. No trace of alcohol, and classy all around. A lovely Dunkel, one to savor!
