Backlogged rating: Deep copper hue with rocky head. Caramel, whiskey, rye, herbs, cotton candy and faint oak. Smooth sweetness balance with the rye and alcohol. Light smoke that is almost peaty. Oily and soft mouth feel, a tad tannic. Well done brew.

Draft sample at FoBAB 2013 pours murky copper. Nose bourbon, peppery, spice. Taste sweet malt, spice, then the bourbon. spice continues through the finish.

Draft. Caramel malt and rye whiskey aroma. Cloudy brown with minimal head. Sweet caramel malt and moderate rye whiskey flavor. Smooth. A big beer - very nice. Would drink this regularly.

tmoreau (4670) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - NOV 18, 2013
On tap at FOBAB 2013, served to a fest glass from a pitcher, showing a cloudy, amber highlighted, mahogany color, with just a modest layer of light tan foam on top. The nose was caramelly, earthy, a bit of smoke, light rye spiciness, with noticeable alcohol. The flavor was similar notes, with added intensity to the alcohol, almost boozy, some dark fruit/plum & raisin sweetness, and a touch of finishing, tanniny dryness. Medium to full in body, and pretty darn tasty!

Draft at FoBAB. Pours a hazy caramel amber brown with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, earthy notes, wood, bourbon, light peat, lots of character, warming alcohol but not 13.2 %.

esjaygee (3906) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 8, 2013
On tap at GTMW 2013, first beer of the day! I simply need a better way to take notes at the GTMW as my notes kind of suck Walking and scrawling is not my forte. Amber with an off-white crown. Aroma is big and sweet with alcohol, oak, rye and toffee. Taste is big and smooth with plenty of toffee, light smoked malts, rye and a touch of bourbon.

Patrickctenchi (6750) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - OCT 13, 2013
Draft:
Slightly cloudy amber/orange...short off-white head.
Rye...caramel malt aroma.
Very sweet, sugary, woody.
Rich, sweet rye whiskey taste.
Really, really, good.

phaleslu (10731) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 19, 2013
Draft pour at GTMW 2013. Pours a golden amber color with a small beige head. Lots of barrel notes in this one; caramel, brown sugar, toasted malts, charred oak, bourbon warmth. There are some minor peat and dried fruit notes coming through, as well. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a big, warm, malty mouthfeel. Nice rye barrel Scotch ale.

b3shine (9193) - Indiana, USA - AUG 18, 2013
Draft to taster at ZwanzigZ. Looks good; a mostly transparent golden copper with thin off-white head. Smells and tastes solid; malty and boozy with notes of caramel and rye. Average on the palate. Enjoyable.
