3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled 750 ml on November 17, 2012, thanks to Ingo! BB date is smudged.
Hazy dark brown color, fluffy tan head. Sweet, malty, alcohol, chocolate scent, a bit milky or lactic. Sweet, lactic, sugary, alcohol, apple taste. Medium mouthfeel, but more spritzy. Low bitterness. Alcohol notes.
Pours a deep brown from the bottle with bubbly tan head that dissipates to leave light lace. Aroma of mild chocolate, a hint of metallic notes, sugary finish. Taste is more toward the chocolate, nice fruity finish. Decent. Hopverdju (1427) - BELGIUM - JAN 16, 2016
Donkerbruin tot zwart bier met dunne beige schuimkraag. Geur: moutig, wat muf, cacao. Smaak: gebrande mout, cacao, chocolade, wat melkzuur. Weinig volmondig zelfs waterig. Afdronk: zoetig – bitterig. Interessant. Alengrin (5629) - BELGIUM - NOV 12, 2014
Pol’s sweet stout, like his other beers only available at the premises, in 75 cl bottles. With added lactose. Creamy, stable, light beige, sticky head, very dark burgundy colour, blackish but not really black, hazy. Aroma of milk sugar, coffee with milk, milk chocolate, cocoa, raisins, some red cabbage and also something vaguely sulphuric. Soft mouthfeel, sweetish and chocolatey, smooth, dryish finish with very light roasted bitterness, as is custom in this traditional but underrated style - of which this is a more than decent example. Strange and intriguing dark ale, not as sweet as I expected but rather off-dry (as was the Witte). Some of that cocoa and roast balances the lighter sweetness. Relatively clean profile allows the chocolate to come through in the aroma. Drinkable and interesting. ekstedt (6944) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 17, 2012
