Kölsch / Kölsch-Style

The Kölsch is a clean, crisp, delicately-balanced, pale gold to light gold beer usually with a very subtle fruit and hop character and brilliant clarity. Subdued maltiness throughout leads into a pleasantly well-attenuated and refreshing finish. Kölsch is an appellation protected by the Kölsch Konvention and is restricted to the breweries in and around Köln so brewers outside the area usually described the beer as being Kölsch-Style. To the untrained taster, easily mistaken for a cream ale or somewhat subtle Pils.
