Porter - Smoked

The Smoked Porter is a substantial, malty dark beer with a complex and flavorful dark malt character with a restrained bitterness and which exhibits smoke as a principal flavor, but still showing good balance between the smoked malt and beer character. It may have a range of roasted flavors, generally without burnt qualities, and often has a chocolate-caramel-malty profile. Different materials (such as beechwood, oak, maple, mesquite, alder, pecan, apple, cherry woods) used to smoke malt result in unique flavor and aroma characteristics. "Imperial" variants are generally closer-related to the base substyle and should be listed with them.
