Red Ale / International Amber Ale

The Amber Ale, or International Red Ale, is a amber to coppery-brown colored, hoppy, moderate-strength ale with a caramel malty flavor with a balance which can vary quite a bit, with some versions being fairly malty and others being aggressively hoppy (typical in American versions). Darker, more caramelly, more body, and generally less bitter in the balance than American Pale Ales. It have less alcohol, bitterness, and hop character than Red IPAs and less strength, malt, and hop character than American Strong Ales. It also doesn't have a strong chocolate or roast character like in the American Brown Ale.
