Caspar’s Bonfire send-off (with cider)
As I mentioned to people during GBBF week, I may well be swapping good ol’ Blighty for Los Angeles, California in November. So I’m planning a big Bonfire celebration in Lewes on Saturday November 5th and then, particularly for my Ratebeer friends, a trip to the fantastic Middle Farm cider centre.
I suggest you book a hotel in Brighton for the Saturday night (you have no hope of getting one in Lewes). Brighton is 15 mins by train from Lewes, a day return is about £4. The plan will be to meet in Lewes in the afternoon ready for the celebrations (my aunt’s house will be a base of operations with food and Harvey’s Bonfire Boy available).
On the Sunday, I’m going to arrange for a minibus to take us from Lewes railway station to a country pub for lunch (either the Ram at Firle or the Cricketers at Berwick) and then on to Middle Farm. And of course then back to Lewes station.
Middle Farm usually has around 60 ciders and 30 perries available from the barrel, dozens more in bottles, bottled beers from nearly all the Sussex breweries (in many cases their entire ranges), meads, English wines and champagnes. Their food shop is very good as well.
