Craft Brewery Field Trip from Orlando to Tampa/St Pete
We will travel to the west coast in style via a comfortable Party Bus. You can bring your own beer (or other drinks) to enjoy en route to Tampa where we will stop first for lunch. After that, the plan is to visit four other top-rated craft breweries in the area before heading back home. All together, its an eight hour excursion!
Special Guest! Gerard Walen, author of ‘Florida Breweries’ will be our special guest guide on this departure. Gerard Walen is a Tampa native who currently lives in Crystal River, Florida, where he homebrews and edits the online travel magazine Road Trips for Beer and the website BeerInFlorida.com. He formerly wrote and edited for the Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune and is now a contributing writer for Beer Advocate, All About Beer, CraftBeer.com, Paste Magazine and other publications.
Itinerary is as follows (but subject to change as we go):
Noon – Meet up in Dr Phillips. Address will be provided once you sign-up.
1230pm – Depart for Tampa. We will leave promptly so don’t be late!
-Stop 1: Tampa Bay Brewing Company – we will start off with lunch at this brewery/restaurant in Ybor City. Lunch menu includes sandwiches, burgers, salads and a whole lot more! Wash your meal down with one of their nine house brews that they have on tap.
-Stop 2: Rapp Brewing Company – RateBeer.com rated them BestNew Brewer in Florida of 2013 so expect good things! We will also enjoy a brewery tour here (the only tour included).
-Stop 3: Green Bench Brewing Co. – St Pete’s first microbrewery. This recently opened brewery features a 1,500 sq ft indoor tasting room plus 6,000 sq ft of outdoor space so plenty of room for all of us.
-Stop 4: Cycle Brewing – Just a short walk from Green Bench is the newly expanded Cycle Brewing. They used to brew at nearby Peg’s Cantina but got too popular and needed to expand to its new location. Their beers are top rated on sights like RateBeer.com and BeerAdvocate.com.
-Stop 5: Cigar City Brewery - No introduction necessary. If all goes according to plan, we will have at least 45 minutes for one last beer in their tasting room before we head home (or get some beers to go!)
