The Official Brewer’s Alley & Monocacy Brewing Launch Party & Firkin Feature: 5 Delicious Local Cask Ales on Tap!

On Monday, August 4th at 6 pm, we are excited to tap 5 fresh, local cask ales as we officially welcome Brewer’s Alley & Monocacy Brewing to Washington, DC. Come on out to taste these delicious brews, and to meet founder Phil Bowers!

Phil revived the brewing tradition in Frederick, Maryland back in 1996 by opening Brewer’s Alley, an excellent brewpub focusing on traditional British-style ales. The original, historic Brewer’s Alley had ceased beer production in 1901 when a large fire consumed the brewery of John Kuhn, who was the last in a long line of brewers to occupy space along the banks of Carroll Creek. For over 153 years, from the very beginning of Frederick County, Brewer’s Alley was a fixture in the social and economic landscape of Frederick. Brewer’s Alley is indeed back, and flourishing under the tutelage of Brewmaster Tom Flores.

In 2011, Phil opened a sister production brewery to Brewer’s Alley in Frederick, also helmed by Tom Flores, called Monocacy Brewing Company. Monocacy showcases a line of modern, American-style craft brews, and also produces a number of bottled versions of Brewer’s Alley’s ales.

For this event, we figured there was no finer way to announce the arrival of two more local breweries to the DC scene then by emphasizing the extreme freshness of their offerings. Real, authentic cask ales, naturally carbonated and unfiltered, showcase the fullest and most immediate flavor intentions of the brewmaster, and do so most emphatically when fresh. And we’ll have 5 casks flowing from our beer engines all night long.

From the Brewer’s Alley line, we will have their IPA, an English-inspired version dry-hopped in the cask with American-grown Chinook hops, as well as Barrel-Aged Oatmeal Stout, this one patiently matured in Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey oak barrels prior to filling. Monocacy is sending Riot Rye, their hopped-up and rye-infused Red Ale additionally spiced in cask with Telicherry Peppercorns, Humulus Lupulus Rex, a true Session IPA of 3.7% that’s been spiced in cask with lime zest, and Brewtus Coffee Stout, a rich and roasty ale of 8.6% abv brewed with locally-roasted coffee and spiced with cocoa nibs in the cask.

There is no admission fee for this event and all Brewer’s Alley and Monocacy Brewing cask ales will be available in full glass pours and 4 oz. tasters.
