Czech Republic is top five, so surely in the top 13. No way Ireland should be on that list and Norway is very questionable.
The Ireland scene has been coming on recently but I’m not sure it should be up there either.

Yes Ireland is a mystery. Maybe I am missing something.
They make Guinness. The thickest, heaviest, darkest, and strongest beer in the world.
Guinness is a brand that sells to people who want to feel Irish because some distant relative lived in Ireland many years ago. The beer is standard stuff.

Just about to say ... Belgium at #1! Move along ...
What I’ll say in defense of Belgium (and Germany for that matter) is that while they don’t have as many new breweries and styles as some of the other countries, at least the majority of what they make is pretty solid. The US may have 4000 breweries but 3800 of them are mediocre at best.
Eh, I’d say the good:bad ratio is probably similar in Belgium versus the US. Belgium is just so much smaller that in absolute terms, yeah, it’s much less, but in relative terms it’s more comparable.

Here is my subjective list right now: #1-5 (in alphabetic order) Belgium Czech Rep. Germany UK USA #6-10 (in alphabetic order) Australia Austria Italy Japan Lithuania #11-15 (in alphabetic order) Canada France Norway Sweden Switzerland #16-20 (in alphabetic order) Denmark Netherlands New Zealand Poland Spain

You’re all forgetting to include Brazil in your lists! :) Over the last years the craft scene has increased greatly.

Since I was only in Belgium for a week we focused on the better places naturally, but I’m having a hard time believing that Belgium has the equivalents of
Area 51
Full Circle
Kat Daddy
On The Tracks
Pratt Street
Sons Of Liberty
Stockholm’s (Geneva IL)
Thompson
etc

It would need to be dramatically better than it was four or five years ago when I visited there. There was only a handful of small brewers in the entire country, even fewer brewpubs and the same six tap handles in every pub everywhere else.

Even if you accept the premise (which I don’t) that still leaves the US ahead by at least a hundred solid breweries. I don’t see being up by 100+ as a fail.

It was just off my list for the sole reason that I haven’t been to Brazil for many years, and so few beers make it out of there. Can’t really base a subject list on hearsay...

Ireland has really come on over the last 6 to 18 months, forget any visits pre 2014 to be honest.
That said, still outside top 13, somewhere low teens for me.
