Das Bierhaus
Karben4 (no visit is complete without ordering their deviled eggs)

New Glarus and Dave’s Brewfarm near the top. Oso. Central Waters.

Forgot about Dave’s Brewfarm...I might include them in or at least close to the top 5.

1. New Glarus -- For the truly special fruit beers and some of the Thumbprint stuff. I think their everyday six-packs are mediocre, and Spotted Cow may be the worst flagship of any highly respected craft brewery (but it pays for all the experimental stuff, so I grudgingly respect it).
2. Dave’s BrewFarm -- If it were in Vermont, we’d be seeing a lot of ISOs for its beers. As it is, people outside of Wisconsin and Minnesota don’t know it exists. I’m sad to see it soon to go away.
3. Tyranena -- For the BGW stuff.
4. Central Waters -- For its barrel-aging program.
5. Capital -- Capital has dumbed down its lineup in recent years with a bunch of mediocre British and Belgian-influenced American craft brewing staple styles. People forget that it long was one of the best German-style breweries in the country, proudly upholding Wisconsin’s German brewing tradition, and it’s historically important to craft brewing in the state.

I’ll go against the grain here. While it doesn’t blow me away by any means, I occasionally enjoy a spotted cow. Moon Man is also one of my favorite pale ales on the planet. Two Women also is solid.

For seasonals, Dancing Man and Black Top are both great, while the coffee stout is better than average.

Dave’s Brewfarm is for sale if you’re interested.......

For me, I mostly like the bigger guys, New Glarus, Oso, Central Waters, Vintage and most recently Karben4. Pretty impressed with them so far in their young start.
