Okay, the German TV segment about Sink the Bismark (30%) vs. Schorschbock (43%) has been subtitled and put in three segments here: http://de.tinypic.com/r/2ccmfif/3 http://de.tinypic.com/r/2qatvz9/3 http://de.tinypic.com/r/2yy9pb6/3
(Yes, there are a few typo’s, and the formatting ain’t perfect, but it’s free, and "whoever" did the subtitling clearly only spent the time to do a first pass, not a professional job.)
The original video from Pro7 is here http://www.prosieben.de/tv/galileo/videos/clip/23425-das-staerkste-bier-der-welt-1.1708058/
The BrewDog dude’s German’s actually quite, quite good. Funny accent though. Repeated freezing is the trick.
Email to BrewDog about this a while back went unanswered, FWIW.
So we have a german lab saying its not 41% and a scottish lab saying it is. All i can say is that without the lab testing it could not have been sold due to goverment laws, so if the goverment is happy with it, who is right?
Well the gov’t wants it to be as high abv as possible for tax purposes, right?
Interesting that BrewDog are mum on the issue though!

Hi All,
Here is the certification for Sink: http://www.twitpic.com/1oxgjs
Every single batch passes this strict test before bottling.
And here is the certification for the End of History. http://www.twitpic.com/28vt8i
The final test was slightly higher than the original test at 56.2%
All test done at Herriot Watt University using state of the art equipment. High ABV beers are notoriously difficult to measure accurately for alcohol. The tests on TNP and Sink! are done by GC - Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry and the only place we can do this in the UK is at Herriot Watt. Our standard beer ABV reading equipment just gives crazy results on the high ABV beers.
Not really sure what went wrong with the German test. We actually gave them the bottle to do the testing on, not something which we would do if we were not 100% sure of the ABV. It was either a faulty test or perhaps a mischievous German adding some water to our bottle to restore some national pride? Either way we have full formal certification on every high strength beer we sell at BrewDog.
Keep on rocking in the free world
James, BrewDog

I’m curious how many rates are there going to be out of an 11 bottle release?

Over/under 50 rates?
|
Can we get a barrel aged w/brett version so it can hit the top 50?

if i win the bottle from the mikkeller bar competition, it will probably generate at least 50 rates.

Thanks for the clarity. I hope it is as something as nefarious as that. It must be, since there were *two* tests. You Europeans and your little conflicts...so quaint.
It was a great tv segment--"prost" to you for an entertaining job well done. Und wieso kannst du so gut Deutsch sprechen, Herr James?

That’s a great offer. It’s a win win situation. You buy Mikkeller beer, you might get The End of History as well.
If people aren’t aware of the offer - for every beer you buy at the Mikkeller Bar in August you get an entry in a raffle for the BrewDog beer.

Since I’m a sucker for this kind of thing, I’d love to try it. If anyone is planning a tasting for End of History on the East Coast, please let me know. I can offer up beers such as Rurik, BA Zhukov and the now comparatively low in comparison ABV beers of TNP and STB to the tasting as well as a bunch of other stuff.
