Tim made a great suggestion on the other thread that we make a ranking of the best bars. He said to do it by taplist, but maybe we should extend it to more overall experience. What do you reckon?
I think we should have separate polls for Kanto and Kansai as they are pretty different areas and I think the information would get obscured if we combine them. If someone from Kansai thinks this is a good idea and wants to collect the results that would be great. Or if you would rather, start a thread and I’ll collate the information.
Your thoughts please?

Oh, Tim, I guess if you agree with ranking overall rather than by taplist, do you want to amend you rankings? I think you said Antenna America would be higher if bottles were included.

This is a good idea, but I need a bit of time to think.

Best bar in the world: Thrash Zone..... Done !
|
Ok, fill in spots 2-10 and we’ve got the ball rolling.
|
I think this is my list....Top 7.... these are the places I go. I have been to other places, but only once or twice (long time ago), that’s not enough to make it to the list.... Thrash Zone Watering Hole Antenna America (Maybe it’s not a bar) Baird Harajuku Gremlin - Sorry Neil, I really liked the elevator ! Craft Heads Ushi-Tora

1. Devil Craft 2. Craft Heads 3. Antenna America 4. CBM Toranomon or Jimbocho 5. Thrashzone 6. Ant n Bee 7. Watering Hole 8. Brewdog 9. Ushitora 10.Bashamichi Taproom - this isn’t just about the beer, but rather I love the set-up, food, etc. I took Popeye off the list. Although I am all about the beer, I would say that Popeye consistently overcharging customers by putting items on the bill they did not order. THis is not only me, but many people I know who have gone there. Although I like Aoki-san, I can’t support a bar (too much) that engages in such activities, so they are not in my top ten. Tim

Here is my list with a few details. I guess it is quite biased towards atmosphere, food, pricing and local brews. 1 > BEACH MUFFIN + Lovely setup, relaxing vibe, tasty organic food, fresh Yorocco beer - can only be enjoyed on weekend afternoons 2 > THRASHZONE + Best value for local hopheads, extreme beers only, proper dive bar vibe - low rotation, staff can get a bit moody 3 > GREMLIN + Cool bartender, friendly crowd, good tap rotation of top j-breweries - food options are quite basic 4 > WATERING HOLE + The local beergeeks favorite, active tap rotation and events, best beer flight in Kanto - awful half-pint pricing 5 > WIZ + One of the best-produced new places, solid food and tap list, happy hour - atmosphere can be a bit bland 6 > AWASHIMA SOUKO + Nice and hard-working guy, tries to find unusual j-micros, beer flight available, good food - terrible location, few local smokers 7 > HOPMAN + Impressive tap list, on par with Ushitora but with much better pricing and seasonal food - really far away from central Tokyo 8 > PIGALLE + Nice vibe, good people, few unusual/interesting kegs, small bottle shop - pricing is a bit too steep 9 > CRAFTSMAN + Outstanding food, decent pricing and beer flight, kind of a deluxe version of CBM - service goes downhill when the place gets packed 10> CBM JIMBOCHO + Most solid tap selection of the chain, good pricing, decent beer condition and food - salaryman hangout so closed on Sundays
