They’re open only on sundaymornings, so how much bottles CAN you sell ? Other bars are open for, say, 6 days a weeks rather than a half. So they sell roughly 12 times more a week. |
Also, i’ve been there like a year ago for the last time, so unless they found new vintage bottles, many of them are out of stock indeed. They still had soem goodies though ! ( like eylenbosh geuze ) so it for sure is worth going to if you have the chance |
When I was there a year ago, only the regulars were available... |
Posting an updated beer list on the internet is not a strength of pretty much any bar in Belgium, especially one that emphasizes tradition, as the Great Thirst does. Just another example, the draught lambics and kriekenlambiks will vary quite a bit depending on availability and demand, but they’ll always have something. |
The above being said, if this isn’t enough then I would book a room at Yves Paneel’s "bed and breakfast" - really just a spare bedroom in his house. If he’s still doing this, details will be on the House of Geuze website, or you can just contact him. He will show you his collection of lambikstoempers. And maybe, just maybe, if you’re nice, and curious, and maybe bring him an interesting bottle, he will share something interesting from his private cellar (which all self-respecting Belgians have). |
I’d LOVE to try that 1999 OGV and 2004 Schaarbeekse Kriek. |
How is the pricing over there? |
Steep but fair. |
