Founders has the best sandwiches I’ve ever had at at brewpub, and Jackie O’s has great pizza, and they use their spent grains in the crust. What other breweries stand out to you because of their food?

Big grove near me does great food from brewpub staples to well composed plates. They do fancy dinners too, haven’t had a chance to make it out to one of those but from photos and word of mouth they are killing it.

Band of Bohemia is a destination restaurant that happens to brew beer as well. I’d put my first visit to the chefs counter as a top five restaurant experience that trumped just about every place I’ve been to in Chicago except for Alinea. I’d be surprised if they aren’t given a Michelin star in the next couple of years.

For me, a few stick out, in terms of actually trying to have a unique menu:

Hair of the Dog
Liquid Riot
Surly

I could go to these places, and just eat, but I’d find it exceptionally hard to skip drinking beer.

My long time favorite has been the New Haven style pizza at Piece. Can’t get enough of that stuff.

My favorite meals at breweries, not saying any were fine dining, but i’d eat here again:

The Freehouse in Minneapolis
Kona Brewing in Hawaii
Newburgh Brewing in NY
Dirck the Norseman here in NYC

I haven’t had a ton of food at breweries, but one that sticks out for me is Benson Brewing in Omaha, NE. Really good stuff. I’m particularly a fan of the fish and chips and the IPA mustard vegan wings. Solid beer too.

Upstream in Omaha is also very solid, but not out of this world. Their beer is pretty lacking though...

Not many close to me have anything but a food truck or snacks. was a LONG time ago (1995?) but Sierra Nevada had good food back then.
Really wish I had been hungry when visiting Schnieder Brauerei as I was offered a free meal and all looked delicious, but was not hungry.

Plenty of breweries have enjoyable food, but I guess it depends on what you’re looking for.

Yeah, one of the 5,000 calorie sandwiches at Fat Heads tastes good, but it’s also kind of an abomination and disgusting. Breweries that have some more refined food options (that are actually good as well) seem kind of rare.

Some of my favorites, regardless of which camp they fall into:

Beachwood BBQ & Brewing (Long Beach, CA)
Brasserie St. James (Reno, NV)
Edmunds Oast (Charleston, SC)
Fat Heads (Portland, OR)
Ladyface Ale Companie (Agoura Hills, CA)
Magnolia (both locations, San Francisco, CA)
Pizza Port (Southern California)
Russian River (Santa Rosa, CA)
Taps Fish House (Brea, CA)
