Do You Chase the Top 50?

It’s possible, my butt gets pretty crazy in October.

I used to try and get Top 50 beers but I haven’t for a couple years. I still have 38/50 and of the Top IPAs I have 8/10 and 25/50 and didn’t realize I did not have a rating anymore for Ballast Point Sculpin although I’ve had it several times. Guess I’ll pick up another bottle and enter the rating.

I should have all 50 here in the next month or so...it’s fun to chase things like that...

I certainly did at the beginning of my craft beer obsession. Thankfully I quickly realized that something being in the Top 50 didn’t mean I was guaranteed to be floored by it. There can be some disappointment in dedicating legitimate money and/or time in acquiring a beer that doesn’t meet expectations. On the other side, it’s a great feeling when you stumble upon on a no-name, cost-nothing beer that turns out to be quite enjoyable.

I wouldn’t turn my nose up at a Top 50 beer by any means and would gladly try one if I had the chance, but there’s too much good stuff out there I’d be missing along the way if I focused my limited resources on the Top 50.

I did, but trading to the US is insane costs and theres more and more Tap only(or VERY limited bottles) thats unless you are really know the right person, its just too much hassle now.


but mostly its money. I cant afford to trade as often as i would like, never mind trying to trade for the insane beers.


Saying that any one thats got the CC Dragonfruit Berlinner can let me know :-) Its probably my Top want just now, but i know its not gonna happen.


I hit 50/50 once ive got the screen shot :-) my glory days are behind me.

yeah some of them were over priced but on the whole my pursuit of the top50 got me a really good mix of beers, as each top50 trade included a nice mix of locals as well.

I’m on the list.. but barely.

Have a 3 or 4 waiting to be consumed..

I definitely don’t chase it.. but keeping company on sites like this and trading, it definitely becomes a side effect. Owe thanks to plenty of people in getting to try Top beers..

To be fair, the Top 50 list (and being listed among the top raters on it) directly correlates to money.. or very generous friends. Or both.

It’s a fun list.. but not something most people actively seek, I think. It just happens.

well, im am at 35/50, and of the 15 i ’need’ i have actually already had 8 of them and just not rated them, lmao! funny to think i never actually rated consecration, supplication, regular stone RIS, etc. so im actually at 43 i suppose in reality.

i guess since i dont even bother recording top 50 beers when i do drink them, i would have to say ’no’.

Im just trying to taste 1 from the top 50 of each style.
