Am in Glasgow for work at the end of the month for two nights. Going to Dogbouse on the first night with colleagues/customers. Free on the second night and will defnately go to Hippo Tap. May go to Dyrgate. However there are two Broughtons from the Protz 300 Beers book which have alluded me. Are there any pubs/shops likely to stock Broughton beers? I asked Brought on Twitter last time I went to Glasgow but got no response.

Broughton beers pop up here and there, but I can’t think of any good shops that stock a broad range regularly enough that you could expect to see what you want. I’d suggest chasing up the brewery. Maybe give them a phone?

Some other places you might want to check out are the State Bar, which is just off Sauchihall Street, very near the Hippo Tap Room. It’s a nice old pub with a good range of well-kept casks. The Bon Accord is also near there and is a famous old pub with good real ale. If you like whisky, The Pot Still is a must, and is also nearby. They have a massive whisky selection, normally a couple of interesting ales, and a good selection of German bottles. If you’re down at Doghouse, Blackfriars is a great pub a couple of minutes walk away with a good selection of well-kept ales and bottles. A wee crawl around some of those pubs would be a good night.

If you’re heading into the West End, Inn Deep is worth a visit. It’s right on the river Kelvin and has a good selection of stuff, and it’s also next door to Valhalla’s Goat, which is one of the best bottle shops in the country (they have a good wine and spirits selection too, if you’re into that). A bit further across the West End is the 6 Degrees North bar, which has an excellent selection of Belgian stuff.

Can someone create a tag for the Protz 300 list?

Saw this place in Dumfries:

It’s about 1h 44m by rail according to google maps, so quite the haul. They did seem to have Old Jock on cask earlier this year, according to their "beers available" tab. I’m guessing that’s one of the beers you’re looking to find, since it’s on the Protz 300 list, along with the Scottish Oatmeal Stout.

Same place, different website. Looks to be close to the railway station.

Old Jock listed as recently as 30 August on keg; not sure if you’re specifically looking for a certain serving type.

And hmm. You could drive (if you have a car) to Broughton itself in about 1h 20m. So, scratch all of the above if that’s an option! And also this:

A tool on their website to find their beer. Might be worth a look.

Would be a fun one. I’ve had about 115 by my informal count.

I found Broughton Ales in both the Tam O’Shanter and the Cavens Arms in Dumfries. But obviously not worth a trip down there just for that (unless you’re also a Robert Burns megafan).

If it’s cask Old Jock you’re after, I’d definitely phone the brewery, see where they’ve sent it, then phone the pubs to see where it’s on. It pops up fairly regularly, but kind of all over the place. The last time I had it was in The Crystal Palace (Wetherspoons pub). On cask, it’s definitely their best beer.

You might also get help with up to date locations for specific beers if you post on the Good Beer in Glasgow facebook group.

Ive seen Broughton stuff on cask at The Crystal Palace most times (I wouldnt call myself a regular however) that Ive been in recently (past 3-4 months); so with faith in hand a trip there might bear some fruit.

In terms of shops selling their bottled beers, the larger Asdas and Sainsburys used to have a bigger selection of Broughton Ales than say Tesco or Morrisons. I’m not sure if this is still the case though. Its a while since I have had any of theirs but when I did I found Asda in particular to have the biggest selection.
