My 1st born was born in 2007. I’m on the hunt for a bottle of 3F OG in a 750ml format to open at his 21st birthday. I have no clue what to even offer. Any tips would be appreciated.

I just checked my cellar database, I have a 2006 and a 2009, sorry...

By the way, assuming that by 21 he would have drunk only college beer, I’m not sure he’s going to appreciate an old Gueuze...
Open a bottle of single cask spirit (they have the year) or vintage Porto instead, and keep the 3F to be opened when he will feel the time has come

Traded one away last week for a zenne y frontera.

How can we tell you what you should offer if we don’t have any idea what you have to offer?

I’d say something along the line of a 2014 Bourbon County Proprietor’s would get it done. The trade value of lambic, and particularly aged lambic, has gone up significantly over the last couple of years, as it’s become much more popular (and thereby less available).

I wish there was some calculation for Shelf lambic

MSRP: $20 (at normal beer stores)
*.20 for each year it’s been
*.50 for not being available as a shelf beer anymore (at least in New england, 3F is non-existent).
= $84

I’m pulling that number out of my butt but honestly, it sounds about right.

Thanks for all the tips. I’ll put together a nice offer soon.
Cheers!

While I agree with the spirit of your statement, I have to say you never know. Hasn’t Koelschtrinker been on this site since he was 17 or so? (and he was on biertest-online before he joined RB) :P

Also, beer culture has changed quite a lot, who knows what "college beer" will be by then.

I think the idea is good though. Honestly, when I graduated high school or college, if my Dad said "i bought this when you were born. you’re probably gonna hate it. let’s watch Rocky and enjoy this beer together"

I’d be pretty effing happy about that. Even if the beer tasted like shit. father son moments like that are hard to come by as you get older.

just bring them up on decent beer at home before they go away to college - kids from other countries manage okay with no adverse effects. Just because they can’t buy the beers doesn’t mean they can’t drink them - and being taught how to appreciate quality and not quantity means they’re not going to overdo it and need their stomach pumped or something at college
