Cool--thanks for the tip! I live 2 train connexions away from the place, and had never been before, although I knew of the place, but not that it had closed. So, thanks for the enlightenment.
We went yesterday, arriving before 17:00. We were two of only a handful of customers over the next hour or two, but then again the weather was SHITE and 1. FC Nürnberg had a home game.
Anyway, although his beers are a definite step above the "modern German brewpub norm" (bland, murky, unfinished, wanna-be-lagers in a brewery designed for pale ales), they don’t show much Californian innovation. Then again, the new Braumeister has been in Bavaria a long time, so the Bavarian samey-ness in brewing might have taken its toll by now.
Hopefully he’ll be able to do more innovative, creative brewing as time goes on. His Blonde and Sommerlager were nice enough, if lacking much in the way of Besonderheit (noteworthiness). But then again, he’s brand new there! A promising start, I think.
The food was the real stand-out though; a very creative monthly specials menu complements the Franconian standards.
We’ll be back when the Gold goes on in a week or two. And when the weather’s nicer.
