I’ve got one night in San Francisco for work, staying near Union Square. Where should I go get dinner and beer? I haven’t been to SF since I was too young to drink. Now I’m kind of a beer snob, so what do you all think? Is there a can’t miss brewery that I can’t get their beer in Colorado and shouldn’t miss? |
Definitely go to Cellarmaker. City Beer is nearby there are also. |
Seconded on Cellarmaker. I certainly am not an SF expert, but based on my limited experience Cellarmaker seems like the best choice. Excellent beers, and great selection. |
Thanks. I’ll be much closer to Mikkeller, but usually like to try smaller local breweries. I was just looking on Google Maps and saw Cellarmaker, looked interesting. I was also looking at Thirsty Bear. I like the beer engines and cask/sour stuff they’ve got listed on their web site as being on tap, though I’m not sure I care much on the organic side. |
If you only have one night in San Francisco and want to focus on beer, I wouldn’t bother with Thirsty Bear. |
Cellarmaker is far and away the best brewery in the City. And it’s like a 15 minute walk from Mikkeller to Cellarmaker. If you wanted to be lazy you could take BART from Powell to Civic Center, you could save yourself 5 minutes. So yeah, just go there. |

Cellarmaker, City Beer, and Toronado (and the BBQ joint across the street). |
