I found a bottle of beer in my mother-in-law’s frig that says "Grizzly Beer Canadian Lager". It is a 12 oz. green bottle and is brewed and bottled by Hamilton Brewing, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The neck label states it is imported by Van Munching & Co., Inc. New York, NY.

Does anyone know anything about this beer? I wasn’t able to find anything about it on rate beer.

Thanks!

(a bit bored during my lunch hour :) )...

Found a French-Canadian article on Google from birreonline.net that mentioned it in passing (translated from French, so a bit funky):

The Amstel Brewery Canada, already Hamilton Breweries, began to operate in 1981 and is hour entire of property of Dutch Heineken NV.

The quartier general of the society, situated to Hamilton in Ontario, it produces to the Steeler Lager and the Grizzly, one lager originally produced only for the market American but hour available also in Ontario.

(end paste)

That associates Grizzly with Steeler, which is on Ratebeer as a product of Lakeport (out of Hamilton). So I’d bet it’s a retired beer, done away with after a merger / buyout or two.

Label is here:

Amstel? Uh, 20 years ago sure. It’s been Lakeport for a long time. The brand may or may not be current - they don’t sell it up here. But Lakeport would be the brewery.

It was in the step father in laws basement and seeing i had just met him didn’t want to say hey can I tap this souvioner beer you got from Canada. Well might not of wanted to. Green bottle and looks like the ingreients to make that beer has settled to the bottom to make a slime like substance. I think that would make you either sick or against the grain for that rating. Beer is probly fine where it is on a shelf in the basement.
