Disappointing. Makes me realize how much time I wasted to give Budweiser insights into how they can fight craft beer. In a sense it also makes me relieved - I feel like I no longer need to waste time and money rating beer. Instead I’ll just enjoy the stuff I’ve finally figured out after 8,000 odd ratings that I know I like.

Wouldn’t this be like Consumer Reports having advertisements? AB InBev is one of the most evil, vile, despicable, unethical, corrupt corporations in the world. Another couple of weeks and the top 50 beers will all be Bud/Bud-owned beers.

Be sure to come back in two weeks and Check, then feel free to apologize when you turn out to be wrong.

What troubles me is the choice to structure this as an investment with an ownership stake. All parties involved could have reached an agreement to provide access to data, work together, infrastructure support etc. for a fee. A deal in which the owners at the time remained the only owners. To structure a deal that yields ownership of any extent to a new party is no accident by any involved. I will not venture to guess at what the rationale and motivation of each party is in agreeing to these terms; however, rest assured either side has (what is to them) a very good reason for doing so. Time will tell if those reasons are beneficial, neutral, or contrary to my interests or the interests of other community members. I am aware of the legal concept of "minority shareholder oppression" which requires a majority shareholder to ensure that it does not damage the interests of the minority shareholder(s) to the benefit of it’s own. This wades into complicated territory. This investment most certainly provides ABI, through ZX, the ability to use it’s extremely deep pockets to frustrate RateBeer should it ever decide it wants to. Whether using this concept or a myriad of others. I hope everyone plays nice together indefinitely BUT...if they don’t...I now have little to no hope RateBeer and our community would survive the aftermath of a corporate divorce in a state that even comes close to resembling the current state. One thing should be clear: everyone should be concerned about the impact of RateBeer now having to concern themselves with the interests of ZX or ABI. Perhaps this works out very well with no ill-effects. I don’t know. I do know the potential exists for RateBeer to be significantly damaged so long as any other parties with a potentially conflicting agenda own shares. I do not know joet and what trust I have in any of the owners is irrelevant. My hope is that RateBeer, the little ant running around working tirelessly on it’s tiny little world (which is of no real consequence to bigger beings), isn’t crushed by the heel of a much larger being out of complete ignorance, apathy or malicious intent.

I raised this issue elsewhere. https://www.ratebeer.com/forums/breweries-reactions-to-the-rb-zx-deal_296296_3.htm
Apparently it’s a "pretty far fetched scenario".
Generally, my concerns are in accord with yours.

Looks like bung has ownership in Skyland Brewing, heheh. Check out how he rated his own beer: "Great beer, I rate it 4 out of 5 on the only real beer rating app (Untappd), but gave it 5 to make up for the douche bag that stupidly rated it 1.9." the douchebag he’s talking about is respected ratebeerian brokensail.

What % is their minority share?
At least upload an avatar before you pretend to give a shit about RateBeer. Welcome new user!
I’ve seen a ton of these new people join recently with no identifying details and just stirring up shit. Go back to TalkBeer.
I feel so welcome. It’s a simple question. Back under your rock.
At least you finally added some personal details to your profile. Thanks for that. I hope you’ll stick around once the news-cycle has moved on to whatever new beer style is hot right now.
Adam--- he is Industry in Sydney. Can vouch for him

Rating your own beers is pretty classy

Sometimes a brewer has to step in when people who know nothing about beer don’t rate their beer 5.0
