I started a Wyeast smack pack and now won’t be using it for a week. Any harm in leaving it sit in the pressurize foil pack, or should I throw it into a 2000 ml flask with more DME? |
Yeah I’d go ahead and just make a starter. |
I would put the pack in the fridge until the day before you brew. Then take it out and let it come to room temp, shake it up real well, and then pour the contents of the smack pack into some kind of sanitized container, such as an erlenmeyer flask, a growler, a mason jar. Feed it with about a pint of fresh wort (dry malt extract & water boiled & cooled of course) a few hours before brewing and it should be good to go by the time your brew is cooled and ready for yeast. |
There are no issues with leaving it in the pack in the fridge, but a starter is always a benefit. |
Agreed with above. Leave it in the pack, make a starter before you brew. |
don’t do that again ... |
Originally posted by SpringsLickerI always smack the pack before letting it warm up. No sense wasting good yeast energizer. The package will ’balloon up’ a bit as it warms so you gotta smack it while you still can. |
