This word is coming up a fair bit in my travels, brews hopped with a lot of Chinook tend to bring that forward in comments.

But, DANK means to me, like an old mouldy cellar. I am assuming through complete innocence that the US version is a reference to the cousin?

Can someone describe, define "dank"?

danku.

I think you’re on the right track. Dank sort of means "wet and musty", a description that I think is totally appropriate when it comes to describing Chinook.

It means that people using it are hippie scum. They should die.

I always thought it was a reference to the marijuana characteristics sometimes found in hops.

To me, it’s always been a synonym for "pungent." And yeah, the marijuana comparison is right, because Dank is just another nickname for weed.

"East Point, smoke some dank!"

That’s from some rap song that friends of mine were listening to in high school, but I can’t remember what.

In slang these days it just means really good. It originally comes from people decribing really good high grade cannabis buds as "dank".

Never heard any hippies use it until somewhat recently, its a term I would assume came from the hood, as thats always where I heard it used for years until it became a mainstream slang term. I agree it seems that hippies and stoners mostly took over the term and now use it to describe anything that is really good, not just buds.

But yeah, the actual definition means musty and old basement-esque.

Some women (and men, I guess) are dank.

I used to think this was bad but now I’m aware it can be a good thing?

Musty and damp. Similar to what it means to you.
