This is Sacramento’s first real craft beer bar. It’s right in the heart of midtown so it’s a great place to ride your bike to. I don’t feel that the review that DYCSoccer17 gave is an accurate description of the place. They may have had a bad experience but hasn’t everybody at some point. I guess my point is that I’ve been there over 100 times (literally) and find that this is a great place. It’s mellow in the afternoons and evening but Thursdays through Saturdays to get very busy from 8pm until closing at midnight. But I don’t find that to be a bad thing.

This place is really interesting. I have been here twice. The first time, the music was blaring loud and there were maybe 7 people there. The owner/bartender was pretty drunk and had just won a bet and bought the bar beers. He opened a La Trappe Quad for a guy next to me, who was entirely hammered. The guy had a couple sips and passed out in his chair. My other experience here had the same loud music, but with a hammered ex-Mormon chatting me up at the bar. I poured him a half pint of the Bluesapalooza bomber I was drinking, and the guy chugged it. The place is very large and spacious. Acoustics are poor, so the place gets noisy. A couple of booths, a couple of pool tables, and a foosball table. Looks like the might try to serve food here. There is only one bathroom, which should be rectified. Bartenders are fairly knowledgeable, despite the lack of sobriety. Decent tap selection and a nice bottle selection with a couple odd-balls. Worth checking out if you’re at Rubicon...just a quick 2 block walk.
