This place is great. They rotate every tap, they do not even constantly keep their flagships on tap all the time. Bartender was great and very knowledgeable. Another cool thing is that if you order a sampler, you have to get every single beer that they have on tap (about 14-16 and 2 casks), you cannot tell them not to give you their witbier just because you do not care for them, you have to get everything or nothing.
Visited on a Saturday afternoon. Dark ambiance. Darts and a few games sitting around. Service was good although they were out of snifter glasses. I wish the selection was a bit bigger on tap but they had a decent number of bottles. Sweet potato fries and bread pudding were excellent!
Visited here this past Friday specifically because I have been to the Arbor Brewing in Bangalore India and know the story and understand the connection between the two places. I love the India location which represents the first true American craft brewery in India...previous and most subsequent endeavors over there being English or German style breweries. It was cool to see some of the same beers at each location. I remember after 2 weeks in a very hot India with few good beers the first time I had Buzzsaw over there...it was a lifesaver! I talked to the staff early that afternoon about the connection and my stories of India...the UM college student that made this happen...and Logan the brewmaster over in India. I could see if going to school in Ann Arbor I’d spend a lot of time here (and Jolly Pumpkin). This location...although a little worn as others have said...surely still has a lot of character. After a short visit here we headed over to the Corner Brewery where we did some serious craft drinking! I recommend you visit both locations in Ann Arbor...and of course the one in Bangalore should you find yourself parched and longing for American craft beers while in India.
Located downtown. Parking looked tight, but I Ubered here so I can’t really comment. Large place, multiple rooms and slammed on a Saturday night. Customer service was nevertheless pleasant. Had a flight of highly drinkable beers. Solid prices. Did not try the food. One of my best friends used to be manager here so this started out as a sentimental favorite before I even walked in the door.
Visited Nov-2011. Dark pub, high ceiling, funky rock music playing over the general din. Not too packed for a Saturday night. Friendly if apathetic staff, probably used to dealing with the college kids. Did not try any food but the beer list was decent, though not up-to-date. We tried a couple halves and they seemed in OK condition but just not to our tastes. Would return but this is not high on the list just by considering its neighbouring pubs... (4/7/11/NA/9/13) 70
A rather worn down brewpub serving nice pubgrub, but the beers are mostly rather boring or uninteresting. We got friendly service, nothing to complain about there, but it sort of doesn’t help. We were advised to go here and not to Blue Tractor, but I’d recommend the other way around.
Around the street from Jolly Pumpkin. Feels more like a restaurant first & foremost, with a bar inside. The beer list is alright, but I’ve sadly never really fallen in love with many Arbor beers. Occasionally they’ll have a nice sour on tap but the regular offerings are just somewhat bland or uninteresting. Good food, decent service. A nice place to visit, have a beer, get a bite to eat, but with Jolly Pumpkin is literally a two minute walk away... Well. You know.
Ambiance: A cool place with nice old wood and brick walls, long bar that can hold a dozen people + a side bar that is open during busy times, plenty of tables everywhere
Service: Bartenders were attentive, even when busy and knowledgeable about the beers.
Selection: Decent selection of their beers, a nice variety even though the quality wasnt always there.
Value: Beers were slightly higher for the lack of quality but still cheaper than JP.
Overall, a nice place to try something different, great if you like shuffle board but can do without Ann Arbor breweries.
A very large but dated brewpub. Everything just needs a bit of TLC. Service was decent but nothing special. Lots of taps with tons of their own brews. We didn’t eat, but it looked like a good menu. Prices are very good and the beer was generally pretty good. A great watering hole.
