Online/phone order. Archer’s web site is "in transition", so I placed my order by phone, but all other communication was via e-mail. Randy is prompt, courteous and pretty cool to chat with. Reasonable prices and shipping go a long way, and Archer has both. Provided FedEx tracking as soon as it shipped. I will certainly order from them again!
Put an on-line order in just last week. Overall I must say my experience with Randy and Archer Liquors was very positive. Randy’s customer service was excellent and attentive. Great communication via e-mail and phone letting me know what he didn’t have in stock, my total cost, when my order would ship, etc. Stays with you all the way. Verified the delivery of my order on Thurs. and I received it the following Tues. New web site is a bit cumbersome now due to transition from the old one. Selection is somewhat limited , but what he does have is of great quality and certainly desirable to someone from FL who can’t get most of what he stocks. Picked up various styles from Bells, Founders, Victory, 3 Floyds to name a few. Shipping was very reasonable. Paid $35.00 for 2 boxes totalling 42 12oz. bottles. To compare Liquid Solutions was $42.00 for just 24 12 oz.’ers. Packaging was excellent and sturdy. The only somewhat negative was having to pay both IL state and Cook County taxes when I’m ordering from FL. Added another unexpected $8.00 which subtracted from the good deal I received on the freight ordering from IL as compared to the west coast. All in all however a good experience and I’ll be back for more.
I’ve only ordered online, and Randy has always done me right. They have been able to hook me up with relatively hard-to-find brews such as the Founder’s Breakfast Stout, the 3F Dreadnaught and Black Sun and the Bell’s Expedition. Great communication and quick shipping.
Look at the website first. You see some pretty great stuff and you probably expect a great beer/liquor store. Couldn’t be further from the truth. First off, this place is in the south side barrio. It’s smaller than a 7/11. Definitely scuzzier. If they had as many six packs as they have Old Style 30’s this place would be amazing. As far as their selection goes it’s definitely all listed on the website. Nothing more. Unless you live in the immediate area, order it online. As far as service goes, these kids had no idea what was going on. The store is so small they made me move 7 times while I was there so they could move dollies of Old Style cases around. They gave me a brown lunch bag for like 7 bottles, a few of which were bombers, that almost immediately ripped when I picked it up.

I’ve only ordered from this place I have never been there in person. Randy is very nice to deal with. Three Floyds and Great Lakes are the main reasons I order from this place. Good selections of both not to mention Bells and Goose Island. I recommend this place.

South side’s only true ’beer’ store. Small, rotating stock, but lovingly cared for. Encourages breaking six-packs, has all 3F (even a rare stashed big 3F), bells, great lakes, founders. internet sales are efficient. if unusual. stop on Tuesday nights & have an ipromptu sample with Randy
This place is easily the most overrated in Chicago. I was expecting more than three tiny shelves. Still, if you’re near Midway, worth a shot, they will have something new for you to try, be it Two Brothers or 3F or GI. Don’t go too far out of your way, but if you’re near midway, go for it.
Convenient for a South-Sider, but Archer Liquors is FIVE MINUTES from Midway Airport... so it’s a no-brainer to stop by on the way to your hotel and get something better than Icehouse. The store is a little claustrophobic, but the beer selection was rather diverse. Also a few shelves of items for the homebrewer. Website is fun, with a no-frills, D.I.Y. format (that’s how my sites look and I love it.) The Q-Club is pretty cool... I feel like I’m in a secret society.
(Soft re-rate 12/2006) As a walk-in customer, I’m starting to get a little annoyed with Archer’s service. Every time I walk up to the register, they have to ring me two or three times because of some stupid error or another. Big cashier-guy with the tribal tattoos should realize that I don’t really care if he’s having a bad day. If he has to re-ring my order because of a fuck-up or because the registers are out of date... I as a customer am the one getting upset. In the long run, my orders and recommendations (and the orders and recommendations of my peers) are keeping you employed. "Customer Service". Look it up. Additionally, not only is the floorspace getting overcrowded but their homebrew supplies are either getting stale or being eliminated. (Service -2, Selection -2, Overall -2)
For an out of towner this place is the greatest. I have beers shipped to me pretty regularly. Lots of selection and things that I can’t get locally. Randy is pretty on the ball as far as turning me on to different beers that I’d like. Great selection, service, and shipping to boot!!!
