Huge beer hall, centrally located right next to the main train station, this is apparently *the* beer hall around here. Took me a while to get here, and I only did so because a friend of mine invited us for dinner here. I was pleased to find out that they serve Edelstoff from the Holzfass here, which is something you don’t usually see, and hey, Holzfass is best fass. Besides that, it’s one of the typical crowded and loud Munich beer halls. Not really a place for the beer lover. The food is quite good for such a huge kitchen, and the prices are okay as well.
Big beer hall close to the train station. We came here rather late at like 11pm. Although opening ours says 1am they were already preparing to close down. The guy at the entrance told us kitchen closed but beers would be OK. The waiter at first wanted us to leave immediately and didnt want to serve us, but then someone talked to him and we were at least allowed some beers. Beers were OK. They had a Helles, a Dunkles and the Edelstoff on offer. Would come back to sit in the beer garden. The place itself was OK, but I dont think I need to return. Overall OK place.
We visited the Augustiner-Keller the first time on 17.10.2015 and many times thereafter. Typical Augustiner beer hall and a large beautiful beer garden. In Winter you can play the Bavarian version of curling in the garden. In summer they have sometimes live music. Inside a bit commercial but nicely decorated with a lot of hops and displaying the different coat of arms of the Bavarian provinces. The highlight is the cellar (8 meters under the restaurant), which you can reach either by using an elevator or walking down a very narrow staircase. This was the former beer storage, where you can still see some old barrels and some other brewery instruments. Edelstoff from the wooden cask is for sure the drinking highlight. If you like sweet dishes, you must try the Dampfnudeln (yeast dumplings). A must visit in Munich and one of our favorite places we visit very regularly.
