Pleasant enough building and interior. Unpleasant enough service to remind me I'm in a German bar. Staff simply assumed as soon as anything was mentioned that we wanted 5 of it. The response to "do you have wine?" was to bring a glass of white wine. The response to "Oh, I wanted red" was "we don't have red". A glass of red was served to someone at the next table within 5 minutes. Was the best of the 6 tap kolsch we had in town, and the bock was pretty OK (and shocked the staff when Anna ordered it, because bock is a strong beer for men (she ordered it because we'd frankly given up attempting to communicate that only one of us wanted the bock, and just accepted our additional kolsch (or white wine))).
Visited on Tuesday night, 5 people we found a table at the upper floor. I wasnt able to see the decoration and feel the atmosphere of the ground floor (which I suppose is much bigger at the back) but it was much quieter since there are only two tables at the upper floor. Good service, they had the Kolsch (it was from OK to good) and the Hefeweizen (didnt try). Food was OK too. Average prices for such type of restaurants in Cologne. I would go again.
Visited on Thursday not too long after opening. Place was almost empty. Not huge compare to other Kölsch bars/restaurants in the city. Service was ok and fast. Selection seems to be only one beer (Pfaffen original), but the other ratings are stating there’s more and it might be possible since I didn’t get ahold of a menu while there. Their Kölsch is good. I didn’t try the food. Price was in line with other places in town. Interesting stop.
Typical german Kolsch bar: loads of wooden tables, small wooden seats. One of the better Kolsch available. Dont order anything but beer here, cause the Kobes will be rude. We had to leave a table inside, as we didnt want to eat anything, although there were hardly any people inside. Silly and stupid.
