Went here on a lazy Saturday afternoon for some food and a couple rounds. Huge selection in bottles. The draft list was big too. Service was fine. The food wasnít anything earth shattering, but it was just fine. Iíll be back for sure.
Corner bar across the road from Half Acre brewery. Good selection of beers on tap and in bottles. Multiple TV screens. Helpful staff but they struggled with my Scottish accent. Good prices. Solid place but not enough to tempt me back on this short visit to Chicago.
A place with supposedly solid burgers (Iíve never tried them) that has a pretty killer taplist too. A decent sized space with a large bar and space for seating. Service is good and bartenders seem to know the beers. The selection was quite good and seemed to skew local. Cheap samples available. A pretty darn good bar.
This place might have the best burgers in town. They offer sample pours, some of them quizzically for 1$. They are always bringing in the newest, freshest stuff so the taplist is often quite interesting. Nice biergarten too.
This place is awesome!! Great sandwiches, burgers, and veggie options. try their Poutine!! Excellent tap selection a majority of locals with a nod to the nationals. Excellent service, communal style, if there is a wait donít worry, they are fast. Last but not least, great atmosphere!!
Generally a pretty good list, but annoying when they post to beermenus before the beers are actually on. Been burned a couple times. Half Acre is across the street (and currently does not serve food). Bad Apple has good food and makes a good one-two punch with Half Acre. Proximity to Half Acre is definitely part of the appeal.
The atmosphere here is homey, eclectic, family-friendly. Extensive bottle list might struggle to be consistently current and this was an issue on our visit, but the tap list is also thoroughly solid. Scratch bar food menu. Disjointed service on this visit, to no oneís particular fault; everyone was friendly and helpful when present, they just seemed unclear about who was actually responsible for us. Overall this is a nice neighborhood complement to the Half Acre taproom.
Awesome food, the sandwiches are out of this world. Great craft beer selection; lots of local stuff, as well as plenty of non-local taps to choose from. Good bottle selection also, if you donít mind paying a little more. Bartender was super friendly, food arrived quickly, & the beers were tasting great. Awesome place to stop & eat before you walk across the street to get loaded at Half Acre.
Really nice draft and bottle selection to go along with a pretty interesting burger menu. I really enjoyed my visit here. Seems like this is a great little neighborhood for food and beer, and this place was quite enjoyable.
Bad Apple is pretty much across the street from Half Acre. They have a really great draft list. On my last count there were 5 Belgians, 1 Austrian, 1 English, and the rest US in various styles and distances ranging from the coasts to just down the road. It is constantly rotating. Their menu theme is burgers, with about 20 different concoctions (thereís other things on the menu too). The food is really delicious. There is really cool sculpture art and painting all over the wall. Over time, I have grown more and more in love with this place. I respect their beer program very much (after following them on beermenus.com for a few months) and they are turning into a must-visit place for me. One of the coolest parts of Bad Apple is the proximity to the Half Acre Taproom. I cannot think of a better Saturday afternoon for a beer geek than starting off at Bad Apple, hanging for a couple hours and eating a huge burger, and then walking across the street to the Half Acre Taproom to hang out for a couple more hours. (And if you really want to do it right, put fountainhead in there for a couple of drinks, but eat here).
A really nice selection of beers here which they rotate regularly. Some rarities, foreign, and craft beers are regularly on tap. They do beer cocktails here - and they do them well. Iíve had the experience of enjoying a couple of their beer cocktails, but Iíve mostly stuck to straight beer. Iíve met a lot of interesting characters / beer geeks here through just random bar chatter. Admittedly, I havenít explored their food menu too much in depth, but Iíve enjoyed what little bit Iíve sampled thus far, and the rest of the menu not only looks amazing, but has come highly praised. The staffís friendly enough, and it seems like even if the bartender isnít knowledgeable about beer, thereís someone in that shift who is and - although they may not be a cicerone, or something resembling such - they do enjoy talking beer
